• I have 2 blogs – the original WP.com blog and the newer WP.org blog on another server.
When using search engines, I’ve yet to get a hit on the newer blog, but often get hits on the older one.
    Why?
I realize there are myriad reasons why search engines select my blog and give it various prominence, but I wonder if the maintenance of two identical blogs is prohibiting the newer one from being “found” by the engines or if it is the way WordPress offers info to the feeds or . . . . what?

The remainder of this post is background. For those not needing to read further, Thanks for your help.

    I started with a WP.com blog.
Shortly after I did that, I started a WP.org blog on another server, BlueHost.
When publishing the other server blog for the first time I duplicated the post/comment material of the first blog, and following the advice some members of this forum, I made my final post on the WP.com blog a re-direction notice — moved to this address, etc.
Currently both blogs are running. ONLY the newer one on the other server is updated with new posts/comments. I maintain the WP.com blog ONLY for the re-direction page.
    Here’s what’s happening:
When I check to see whether or not search engines are picking up on my blogs — and I do this quite unofficially by entering my search criteria in various engines and reading the results — I find some hits on many of the engines, but they are all hits for the WP.com blog.
FOR WHAT ITS WORTH, when I click on the search engine result I am sent to the RE-DIRECT page, not the original story, and this of course is what I had hoped to achieve, but why isn’t the later/current blog getting the hits?
For those who read this far, Thanks again for your help.

Hopefully a “bump” will encourage a reply. Thanks.

“but why isn’t the later/current blog getting the hits?”

that you dont see your new blog listed doesnt mean that. Have you looked at your access logs to verify this?

The long and short answers to your question(s) are going to ultimately be wait, and be patient. And ask Google.

There is no-one here, even if they profess to being seo experts that can tell you precisely why it might take so much time for X, but less time for Y. Its all supposition.

Whoo has a point. COuld be that you put up the first site right before Google did it’s “dance” and it picked it up. But your second site was put up after – which means it’ll be a while.

There’s a lot of things that could contribute to it. Google can take up to a year to get on the index. It’s a patience game.

In the meantime, go read Jill Whalen’s site. Now there’s an expert in SEO. You may find more info there to help you out.

OK Thanks. I’m not at all surprised by your comment “be patient.”

What I had hoped was someone would know or have an opinion on whether or not the 2 blogs presented a problem in this area.

As I said before, I only maintain the WP.com blog for the re-deirect and my question really is “in doing this do I interfere with search engines” finding the newer blog of the same name, different server?

    no.

Whew! Your answer was so brief I almost missed it . . . but then again, it doesn’t require much embellishment:).
    Thanks for your help.
