2 honeypots useful?

  • I’m still getting spammed. Not by the entire internet but there are some persistent spammers who are getting past the honeypot repeatedly.

    So, I’ve added a second honeypot tag. The whole form looks like this (and it works ok):

    My questions is, will this help the spam situation?

    It could help. It will increase the likelihood of snagging bots that fill in fields automatically. However, if you have spammers that are manually spamming, two honeypots won’t be any more effective than one, as they’ll bypass the whole system of security that honeypots provide.

    If you’re getting blasted by spam and the honeypot isn’t helping, it may mean you’ll have to enact tougher security measure (“I’m not a robot” captchas or whatnot).

    Sounds hopeful then, as I don’t think it’s human spam. It’s like a bot that knows how to circumvent the honeypot, maybe??

    I got 3 this morning in quick succession and then nothing for the rest of the day,and this is the way it’s been going for the last few days.

    I tried adding the default WordPress Google recaptcha that’s available in contact form 7,but it stopped the send button working for some reason so I’ve removed it and added the 2nd honeypot.

    Here’s an example of the spam I’ve been getting repeatedly. I don’t think that’s been posted by a human……
