    Hi,

I run my main wordpress site at pinkfloydonline.com

I have another domain, pinkfloydtabs.com, that I’d like to install wordpress on, on the same server.

My host allows having 1 hosting account to host multiple domains.

I tried to install another version of wordpress for the pinkfloydtabs.com domain but it said it couldn’t establish a connection to the database.

Is there a conflict with having multiple wordpress installs on 1 host?

All the credentials were correct, so I couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t let me install it. I made sure to use a different prefix for the tables.

    What are my options?

    No.

If you’re using the same database as the one for your first site, then the database information in wp-config.php should be exactly the same. As you already know, you’ll need a different prefix.

Perhaps you could try creating a new database for your second site, it will be neater too.

Hi fong, that’s why I’m confused, I entered all the details correctly and with a different prefix but it wouldn’t let me install.

Any ideas of what I did wrong?

Any other things I can try?

It does sound like you’ve done it correctly. Perhaps you could try creating a new database?

Did you place the WordPress files for the second install in a subfolder?

Hi fong, I didn’t place the wp files in a subfolder because it is it’s own domain, with no files in it… It’s a fresh new domain with a blank slate.

I’m not very good at databases, is it difficult to create a new database? How do I do that?

So where did you put the 2nd set of files? For the database stuff, check out the link posted by Samuel B.

Appears I need to create a new database, according to that link from Samuel B. (Thanks, Samuel)

Maybe that’s what was causing the problem.

I was trying to put 2 wordpress’s in the same database.

I uploaded the WP install/files via FTP to the pinkfloydtabs.com domain fong.

It looks like your host gives you a separate root folder for each domain, so they might not be able to access the same database. Just a guess.

Other hosts allow domains to simply be mapped to subfolders, so they can share the same database, and which is why I asked you if you put your 2nd install in a subfolder.
