2 WordPress sites as subdomains – separate?

  • Hi everyone,

    I’m really new to WordPress and might sound like an idiot here, so please bear with me.

    The charity I have just joined has a fairly prehistoric website and I’m looking to update it. After speaking to our current host (LCN), I have set up a subdomain and installed WordPress, with a view to transferring the domain when the new site is ready to launch. The current, old website will remain up until then.

    My issue is that we also have an existing WordPress blog which is also a subdomain of the main (non-Wordpress) site. I want to update WordPress on the NEW site (we’re currently running on 4.2.2. and some of the themes I am looking at will only run on 4.3 or above). If I update when logged in to my new WordPress site, will the existing WordPress blog also update? I’m hoping the answer is “no” but I want to be sure before doing anything.

    I would, of course, like to update the blog eventually, but as I’m new to WordPress I’m pretty nervous about making a back-up etc. so for the time being I’d like to leave it alone and focus on the new site.

    I also wondered whether I need to set up a new database for the new WordPress site for future back ups etc.
