    Hi WP Idea Stream users,

    I’m about to upgrade the plugin (in about 1 hour or 2). As usual when ugrading a plugin, i strongly advise you to backup your database and files.

    I’ve changed a lot of things to this plugin. Check the changelog of the plugin, when 2.0.0 will be released, for the most visible changes. One of the most important thing is a better use of the WordPress Rewrite API. The great benefit is that you won’t need anymore to change you permalink settings if you are using the default WordPress setting.

    For the people who will upgrade from version 1.2. Once done i invite you to go into the IdeaStream Settings Administration submenu. At the very top of this page you will see the url to the page listing all your ideas. It will not be site.url/is/all-ideas/ anymore but simply site.url/is/.

    The IdeaStream navigation widget will automatically use this new url. But if you have set a Nav menu link, you’ll need to change its url.

    Another good new is that, in the IdeaStream settings page you will now be able to customize all the slugs of the plugin (e.g.: change ‘is’ for whatever you like).

    If you don’t like the new way IdeaStream is using the WordPress rewrite API, you can roll back to a previous version of the plugin. Before doing so, just make sure to delete the option having the meta_key ‘_ideastream_version’ in the {table_prefix}options table of your WordPress database.

    I’ve spent a lot of time testing this new version of the plugin, and i think it’s good to go ?? I really hope no annoying bug will show up in your configuration that needs to be at least WordPress 4.0.

  • Would it be possible to do a quick video on how to set idea stream up? IN particular getting a little lost where how you set up new ideas on the front end?

    This is not supported anymore by the plugin, sorry.

    Don’t try to create a page with the ideastream root slug, it would fail. In the settings of the plugin you’ll see a slug conflict.

    Use nav menus or the built in widget to add links to the ideastream part you want.

    I went on your site, something must be wrong with the slugs you chose for ideastream. I see this is a website where you are testing various themes and extensions.

    As you seem to have trouble, i advise you to do some local tests using a MAMP/WAMP/LAMP software. With no other plugin and default WordPress theme.

    Thank you so much for the advice. Yes I massed up on my site and was trying to bring back everything. I think it is working now. Some framework that I had to update hurt me more than idea plugin. I am thinking to install a theme rather plugin. What do you think? All I want is to have some idea by my users and they can vote on each other. Display the most 3 voted ideas on top.     I finally looked on your video and got it installed. However It is giving me an error saying – page not found. Try this link:

    Have you tried first this :

    As you seem to have trouble, i advise you to do some local tests using a MAMP/WAMP/LAMP software. With no other plugin and default WordPress theme.

    Try to refresh your permalink settings by hitting the save permalink settings.

    If it doesn’t change anything :
    Make a backup of your database and files.
    Deactivate all plugins even WP Idea Stream
    In Database remove all options beginning by ‘_ideastream’ in your wp_options table
    Use a WordPress default theme such as twentytwelve
    Activate WP Idea Stream only
    Go to IdeaStream Settings submenu copy the url to the main archive page of the plugin without changing any settings.
    Paste the url in the browser and check what’s going on.

    If it doesn’t work. Try with a new install of WordPress. If you run a multisite. Create a new blog to test.

    Thank you for your response. I put everything on my local drive and tested. I found out the plugin is not compatible with woocommerce canvas theme. So I have installed another theme now and it is somehow working. The menu shows up and partial text shows up however instead of add idea option, it is displaying my comment, the default comment of the site. I think I am close I just need little config help. can you please suggest how to get the comment disable and get your plugin suggestion added. I will play with the SEO plugin meanwhile. I think permlink is also massed up on my site. Do you know any good seo plugin that works with your plugin?

    Update: It was the way menus are being setup was causing problem. I think I have it working now on this new theme I have installed. Please check

    NExt I will try to go back to the other theme I have. Before that I will upgrade woocommerce latest (2.2.8) and come back to the theme I had originally

    Yes it’s working ??

    So there might be a problem with canvas or woocommerce. I’m very interested to know if it’s the theme (canvas) or the plugin (woocommerce) that is generating the weird behavior you submitted at first place.

    I finally got the time and test it thoroughly one at a time with other plugins… I think the ideastream has issue for sure with canvas theme. It does not work and the permlinks are massed up for the plugin. Now I tested with woocommerce 2.2.7 and it works however I had same issue with woocommerce 2.2.8 it does not

    I really appreciate if you can download or test with woocommerce latest and the canvus theme and let me know that would be great. Many thanks for your help

    If it’s canvas, as it’s a premium theme, i will not be able to look at it.
