• I’m a complete beginner trying to set up a simple web site for my wife to display her ceramic portfolio. She wants a plain front page showing categories BUT no posts or blog. I’ve altered the colour scheme added a header and image, removed the side bar widgets but cannot remove the Post message on the front. I’ve changed the post message to “Welcome to my Portfolio” but there are still edit links and uncategorized links present on the page. I suppose I’m trying to change the essence of WordPress and realise it may not be possible without altering code but that is beyond me at the moment. I would appreciate your advice.

  • Have you checked the settings page? You can set a static page, or set it to display your latest blog posts. You can ultimately create a custom page, and use that as the homepage of your site.

So if it is set to a static front page (something you’ve created) it shouldn’t be displaying any posts on the page unless the page is set to use a template which displays posts.

Within that page edit screen, on the right hand side just below the publish button, you’ll see a dropdown to allow you to select a page template.

Yes, the page is set to “front page template”. I’ve been into quick edit and it all points to a permalink. I can’t delete this and it doesn’t show in the permalink section. I have played around with this and a link has ended up next to the home button??? I think perhaps that i should start again.

    Thanks for your time
