2016 theme-getting more "need 4.4" messages

Two-year user of self-hosted WordPress on another of my sites: I have been using the 2016 theme for a couple of months on my new website (intersectionsok.com) because it works well as a host site for my new podcast.
Problem: I initially was able to set it up, but now when I try to customize the header further, I get a message saying that I need to have WordPress version 4.4. I also get that message when I try to see a preview. But 4.3.1 is the latest according to the message that I have on my dashboard. I’m lost.
