Hello — Long ago, I created my website using a child of the twenty-seventeen theme. At the time, I didn’t have a need for the parallax images that the theme uses on the homepage, so I deleted them. Since then, I’ve done a lot of customizing with plug-ins, etc. Now I’d like to have those parallax images on the homepage after all, but no idea how to reinstate them. They aren’t in any of my saved backups because they were deleted so very long ago. Is there a way to get those back onto the 2017 homepage without jeopardizing all the work I’ve done on the site in all these years? If so, how? I’m not a programmer, so I rely heavily on tools like Beaver Builder rather than digging into the code itself — but if it’s just a matter of cut & paste from the original parent to child I could probably handle that much coding… with guidance.

    Thanks for any helpful suggestions!

  • Hi @architectjca I want to make sure l understanding what the issue is. Do you want to know how to add images the way they’re displayed on the theme’s homepage or do you want to use the images that are actually on the theme?

?Hi @thelmachido, and thanks for reaching out! I’d like to add my own photos with parallax function, the way it works on the parent theme. Right now only my header image does that. Further down on the page, the theme has a series of parallax images, but I deleted that functionality long ago by completely deleting those sections from my child theme. I don’t know how to get the parallax functionality back. Beaver Builder doesn’t seem to have anything that can do it, and there’s no trace of the original parallax sections to reactivate them. I’m hoping I can somehow “import” it directly from the parent back into my already-customized child theme.

    Thanks again!

Hi @architectjca I see, this theme’s home page is made up of pages that you would have selected to be displayed on the front page. So the images you are seeing are the featured images of the pages you would have selected.
If you go to Appearance > Customiser > Theme options you will see an option to select the pages that you want to be displayed on the front page.

You can have up to 4 sections of the front page

In summary, each Parallax image you are seeing is the featured image of a page you pick for each font page section.

    I hope that helps

Thank you so much @thelmachido — I think this is going to do the trick! Just a couple follow-up questions about implementation.

    1. I’m not sure how to designate the “feature image” for each page. I chose “2017 featured image” from a drop-down for the first page, but once I chose it for one page, that option didn’t appear in the drop-down for the next page.
    2. On the home page, I’d like it to be full-width as it is in the parent theme; does that only work if it’s full-width on the featured page as well?
    3. And what do I need to do to activate the parallax behavior?

A quick test just now showed the image on the homepage but it was not full-width and not parallax. Just static.

    A million thanks!

With some poking around, I believe I found the answer to # 1&2: the featured image is set using the standard page editor as opposed to Beaver Builder’s editor. There’s an option to designate a featured image, and doing so places a full-width image on the featured page. So that only leaves question #3. Thanks!

And what do I need to do to activate the parallax behavior?

If you are referring to how the image is displayed when you scrolling down the page, this should be enabled automatically. When you add a page to a front page section how are the featured images displayed?

Hello again @thelmachido — Yes, you’re right, they do scroll with parallax. Thank you so much for all your help!

Hi @architectjca I am glad I could help, thank you for the update ??
