2019-03-17 Feature request for automated notifications

    Hi Jeroen, as I plan my directory, I keep thinking of enhancements. Here is another one. I plan to update my directory of resources for my clients. Is there some simple way they could be notified whenever there is a new entry? For example, could they subscribe to the directory (by providing an email address) and be notified when a new entry is added? Or, I wonder if this could be implemented using RSS? Anyway, I’ll leave the technical details to you, but it seems like many people are probably maintaining directories that evolve over time and their audience may want to know when something new is added. Thanks for considering!

    thank you for this contribution. I will not implement this.

    E-mail seems simple but it is a complicated thing (like bounces, spam, html or plaintext). You have to maintain e-mailaddresses, which is pretty cumbersome. Or I should make an integrated with the WP-user system, so people can sign up at your site and such. That’s really too much.

    Also, the RSS idea is a good one, but also not one I will implement. If you would want something like this you need a kind of activity stream (when was something edited, what was edited, what kind of activity, who did it). That’s not something Name Directory supports at this moment and is something too specific for Name Directory.

    I am grateful for your contributions, but I am not planning on implementing this, I’m sorry.

    Yes I see your point about notifications being complex. I will figure out a way to work around this, for example, I can make people sign up for access to the directory via my WordPress membership plugin, and then I can manually email those people when there is a significant change.
