  • To update my blog I used the list provided by masquerade and compared that to a list of files that I’ve customized for my site. Any pages that were changed in 2.0.2 that I had also customized were manually tweaked, then all of the “delta” pages were posted to my site. I see people have done simple upgrades and were done in x minutes but I’m guessing they have no customizations. I did not upload the entire package to my hosted site and I did not do an upgrade operation. This is a very manual and tedious process, took a couple hours, and is subject to error. I did the same operation when upgrading 2.0 to 2.0.1 and it feels like I’m doing surgery every time. Can someone suggest a more simple process, perhaps some tools in Windows or Linux, that will allow me to do this more elegantly? Thanks!

Done 56 seconds to update, after uploading which took 2 minutes.

    WOW!!

Why couldn’t SMF, phpBB, or other php software be this easy?

And as Starbuck asks, yes, I have not customized it. I think that is a major problem with php software is once you customize it, forget about upgrading and keeping anything–pain the the keyboard. So I guess that is the reason for me that it was easy. I will never customize any php or software, it causes headaches, and what adds to them is when the creators of the software tell you to customize but don;t tell you the repercussions down the road–this is what SMF does. then they look at you stupid for customizing.

I reinstalled the old version I had (1.5.2) and it works fine. I copy all new files from version 2.0.2 and run the upgrade.php. It says all went fine and my wordpress upgraded. But the moment I try opening wordpress again in my localhost I get the “The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.” error again :-S

My upgrade from 2.0.1 to 2.0.2 doesn’t seem to have worked. I followed the instructions. However it seems to want a wp-settings.php file that doesn’t exist. any ideas?

Never mind, I just forgot to upload that file.

Just thought I’d post my upgrade experience. Went well. Got nervous right after upgrading because I was getting “cannot find server” errors, but a few seconds later, everything worked fine. The upgrading process could be streamlined though.

    sorry for double post

guys. i still have the wordpress 2.0 — 0.31 seconds version.
could you tell me please, which files should i replace to have the latest version of wordpress which is the 2.0.2? thanks!

The 2.0 to 2.0.1 changed in excess of 70 files see here. I don’t have a list of 2.0.1 to 2.0.2, but it would probably easier to follow the ‘replace everything’ method rather than just swap out the changed files.

thank you iand, i’ll try it later and tell you
by the way, the new 2.0.1 files where can i find them? should i unzip the 2.0.2 files instead?

    Old versions are at https://static.www.ads-software.com/archive/
If you want to (and have the tools) you could do something like diff -rq 2.0 2.0.2 to get a new list. As I said previously, replacing everything is a better and quicker method, unless you have specific reasons not to.

im just new to this. and im worried, lol

I need helpt. I setup subdirectory and moved my blog from https://www.afzaljaved.com to https://www.afzaljaved.com/family but later decided to revert it. Now when I wam trying to upgrade from 2.0.1 to 2.0.2 and type https://www.afzaljaved.com/wp-admin, it takes me to upgrade page with link “UPGRADE” but when I click the link, instead of taking me to https://www.afzaljaved.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php it tries to take to subdirectory “family” which doesn’t exist i.e. https://www.afzaljaved.com/family/wp-admin/upgrade.php. Please help me to get rid of this subdirectory and upgrade to my origina directory i.e. https://www.afzaljaved.com
