2.0.4 wordpress permalink question

    I am starting a new blog and would like to ask the following question .
    I have just installed wp on my domain by using fantastico in cpanel it is the 2.0.4 version .
    I would like to have my permalinks have the /%postname%/ option . Is it enough to put the form in the options>permalinks>custom field or do I have to write the .htaccess file myself .

    Does the new version automatically rewrites the .htaccess file for you , once you put it in the custom field ?

  • If there is a .htaccess file AND it is writable (=chmod 666) then WP will write the rules into it.
    If the .htaccess file is not writable – it may ask you to put the code that is shown below into your .htaccess file.
