• I have regenerated thumbnails for a number of images, but the results are inconsistent for the 2048x image size, as displayed in the Regenerate Thumbnails view.

Some show a line like this, with a green checkbox:

? 2048×2048: 2048×2048 pixels (proportionally resized to fit inside dimensions) 1390720-2048×1538.jpg

Others show the same line with red X, PLUS a separate line below the main group with a green checkbox. Note the inconsistent secondary pixel size (in this example, 1366 and 1365):

X 2048×2048: 2048×2048 pixels (proportionally resized to fit inside dimensions) 20200708-_MG_9858-1366×2048.jpg
    ? 2048×2048 (old): 1365×2048 pixels 20200708-_MG_9858-1365×2048.jpg

Regenerating thumbnails again does not change this. I don’t think checking “delete thumbnail files for old unregistered sizes” makes a difference. Is this an interface glitch, or is there some logic to these thumbnail sizes that escapes me?

(I spotted this while troubleshooting a problem with inconsistent links to media files in galleries, and I’m not sure if it’s related.)
