• Hello,

I’m using Google XML Sitemaps, and I’ve been experiencing an element not found Parsing error. I recently found this on my site when checking the sitemap. I’ve been using this plugin for several months already, and I never had an issue with it before.

When I came to the sitemap I found this:

XML Parsing Error: no element found
    Location: https://gpsdevicesdirect.com/sitemap.xml
    Line Number 1, Column 1:

I thought that maybe I needed to upgrade to a newer version of the plugin, so I upgraded to v. 3.1.0.1, and I still have the issue with my sitemap.

I would appreciate some help with this.

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

It seems that you have fixed this problem. I tried reaching ur sitemap url. Its wrkng fine.

Now am experiencing the sampe problem. Could you plz let me know what you have done?

    My Sitemap URL: https://www.seobyelan.com/sitemap.xml

Note: My blog has been hosted in windows. I could not make sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml.gz with 777 or 755. Simply its writable through coding by hosting provider.

It will be very helpfull if u help me in fixing this.

how did you guys fix it?

    sitemap: https://www.juanmasipag.com/sitemap.xml

I had the same problem and just fixed it by deactivating the sitemap plugin, deleting the sitemap files from the website and deleting the error_log file also.

Then reactivated plugin and manually rebuild sitemap.

Forgive my ignorance, but where is the “error_log” file?

Uuhm, there is no error_log file from the plugin… Can you try to rebuild the sitemap via the debug function from the admin screen and watch out for any errors or warnings?

Big thanks to inview. Your method worked for me.

I had the same problem and just fixed it by deactivating the sitemap plugin, deleting the sitemap files from the website and deleting the error_log file also.

Then reactivated plugin and manually rebuild sitemap.

The error log file is found in the same folder as the two sitemap files.

Did you make a backup of this error_log file? It wound be interesting to know here it came from and whats inside… Maybe its the error log file created by PHP, so it could contain information why the plugin didn’t work before ??

I’m getting the same error. I followed the steps you recommended above except deleting log error file since I couldn’t find it (both sitemap files are in the root folder and I don’t see error log in that or the xml sitemap plugin folder):

It didn’t work. Now, I’m getting these errors in addition to the other error:

    # There was a problem writing your sitemap file. Make sure the file exists and is writable. Learn more
    # There was a problem writing your zipped sitemap file. Make sure the file exists and is writable. Learn more

    1. Delete your sitemap from your server
    2. Deactivate plugin and reactivate it
    3. Rebuild manually if needed

The problem I am having is that I keep having to do this as my sitemap fails at least once per week….
