• After having installed 2.1, I am suddenly finding myself being flooded with spam messages in my moderation queue, plus I keep getting e-mails from the moderation queue even if I have moderated comments as being spam. Others having the same problems? It is like the Akismet plugin all of a sudden has stopped functioning…

  • If the file names are the same, they’ll be overwritten regardless the contents (and be sure you see the previous caveat: YMMV!!)

    vkaryl,

I wouldn’t recommend that to people. In theory, that’s what should happen, but you never know.

Someone should put a notice up on the Upgrade instructions to make sure to upload the new version of Akismet to their plug-ins folder.

Hm, guess this is why my version is 1.2.1 but is working fine?

I renamed the old folder to OldAkismet before upgrading, yet it didn’t upgrade my version.

    Off to search

Edit: resolved. Akismet was listed twice in my plugins and I didn’t see 2.0 sitting there, waiting to be activated

    *resolved*

don’t rename the old one. Get it out of the plugins directory or WP will still see the old plugin file. Essentially, you have akismet in there twice.

And the version that comes with WP 2.1 is Akismet 2.0 (not 1.8). That’s the one you want to be using. Any others should be deleted.

I’ve have been having this problem as well since Ella 2.1 It seems as if Akismet has been letting some spam through. Anyhow, I’ve deleted the akismet folder on the server and reuploaded it again. Hope it works well this time. (:

    Akismet is such a lifesaver!

PS. Oh and regarding the issue of people not knowing they had to upgrade Akismet, I’m 100% positive the upgrading instructions DID state something about Akismet. If not, I don’t think I would have upgraded it. (Which I did.)

I’m also having terrible issues with Akismet letting spam through – Approx 5/hr for my higher traffic blog, and a dozen a day for the low-traffic ones I manage.

I reinstalled Akismet, double-checked my API key was still valid, etc on my main blog, but still no success in stopping the spam. It also doesn’t seem to be version specific, since the blogs vary from the late 1.* versions to latest 2.1 of WP, and Akismet versions also vary accordingly.

And it isn’t clever spam either, it’s casinos, britney nude, medication, all the most obvious stuff.

Is it possible that the Akismet filter itself is being too lenient and letting junk through for everyone?

As a follow up to post above. Deleting Akismet 2.0 and reuploading it didn’t really solve the problem. ?? I think I’ll go check out Bad Behaviour it this persists.

And as another follow up, I think this would explain things well: https://blog.akismet.com/2007/02/05/cluster-upgrade/

I happened to stumble across it today. (: Currently, no spam is getting through for me.

If you don’t need trackbacks, make sure that all ping_status values in your posts table is set to ‘closed’.

There is no global option to disable trackbacks as far as I’m aware.
