Been trying to upgrade from 2.0.5 for 2 days and keep getting errors. I created a backup of all my files before the upgrade, deactivated my plugins and followed the upgrade instructions as https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Upgrading_WordPress#Detailed_Instructions

and i keep getting various errors. The current one is

‘code’Fatal error: Cannot redeclare timer_stop() (previously declared in /home/content/q/a/s/qasimalyas/html/blog/wp-settings.php:65) in /home/content/q/a/s/qasimalyas/html/blog/wp-includes/functions.php on line 865’code’

I tried to revert back to the backups and even that is giving me errors. FYI: my hosting is with godaddy and i used their cpanel to create the database. Please help!

  • If you’ve turned your plug-ins back on after the upgrade, make sure you deactivate any cron plug-ins. I was having trouble with those even before upgrading (with a very similar looking error message) and there are now built-in cron functions in 2.1 that those plug-ins may conflict with.

@windlotus68: i deactivated all the plugins before the upgrade. I follwed the instructions as noted and i when i run the upgrade.php script i get an error. I can’t even roll back using my backups.

@samboll: already seen that post, no help – thanks though.

Im thinking of doing a brand new install but would you know how to pull in all the posts etc. In the meantime ill keep trying and i appreciate any further suggestions

i just reuploaded my original backups and i get an error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: language_attributes() in /home/content/q/a/s/qasimalyas/html/blog/wp-content/themes/default/header.php on line 2

Any ideas? Atleast if i can get my old blog working that would be something

Make sure your version of the default theme matches your WP version; it changed for 2.1. If you do have the matched set, you could try making a copy of the problem file (/themes/default/header.php), removing the offending call, and uploading the newly edited copy in place of the one now up there.

I saw a link to upgrade WordPress in my wordpress admin panel. I clicked on the link, downloaded it, copied the files to my directory. Uploaded them and now nothing is there on my website. I didn’t make a backup because I just thought all you would have to do is download the new zip file, unzip, copy to your folder and upload. I’m new at wordpress.
I’ve tried to get to the install page, the page can’t be found. My wp-config file has all the same information. What can I do? this is a disaster for me.

And why are you posting in a thread about 2.1 version and 9 months old???
Don’t go to the install page!!! that would wipe out all your database with all the old posts!!!

Never upgrade without making a backup and/or reading the documentation.

I’m not sure where to go to post a new question?
