• I’m on 2.2.2 on a number of blogs of mine. Now I see there is a 2.2.3 security fix. Rather than going through the whole upgrade procedure, can’t I just upload the changed files, according to the changed files page?

I don’t see why there can’t be a package for new security fix releases that just has the new files, for those who wish to faithfully and quickly update a site for security reasons. Just unzip and upload. I understand the bigger upgrades cannot go that way.

  • There is no database change in 2.2.3 and yes you could just upload the changed files.

    Thank you Michael.

Doesn’t it seem like — in order to help us all who want to remain current, yet don’t want to analyze every security upgrade — it would be a simple matter for WordPress to create a zipped up file of the changed files and tell us that IF you are on the already latest release and just want to do the security upgrade, that one could just download this package and upload? I would think that a huge number of people would update their software more quickly. Just a suggestion.

You could always enter that suggestion in the bug and enhancement reporting system at https://trac.www.ads-software.com/

    Hi!

The German WordPress website provides a zip with just the changed documents for each update… it is extremely usefu, and really time saving!

    hi Searchen,

stupid question … is the German WP zip file in German?
    (had to ask)

out of my 4 blogs, i re-did 2 from scratch (after copying all posts, pages, images, etc as well as DB b/up) and the third i copied only those changed files from the Announcement page. This last upgrade went very wrong and I now have to re-do much of my blog (*sigh*).

I’m afraid to upgrade my last one since it is the most content-rich and I don’t have the time to upload it all to a backup folder (altho, time being relative it will prob’ly be the safest)

so .. i’m curious about your zip file.

    thx in advance …

If you click Blog on the top of this page, you will get the list of the files:
    https://www.ads-software.com/development/2007/09/wordpress-223/

I was just looking through the link moshu provided and if you click on the link to get the list of files that were changed it brings up wp trac and at the very bottom there is a zip archive with the files in it.

You forgot “and IF you haven’t modified any other core files”. No file is an island, if you have any modifications, then you could have problems even if those files were not modified by the new version.

But really, is this such a big deal? I uploaded the entire thing to my site, overwriting the previous version, in about 2-3 minutes. It seems to me that a changes-only package would only be needed if the package were more than 10-15 meg or so. But for less than 3 megs, uploading the whole thing is not even noticeable.

thx moshu and jeremy – that’s the list that i used to update my 3rd blog

since then, i’ve been having issues with my post/page/category links. from the URL, i can see that the addresses aren’t concantenating (sp?) properly so i’m getting some odd errors. i’ve also lost my header image (not sure how that’s related).

and i get these same errors regardless of theme.

    so …
i’m just a little hesitant to upgrade my 4th blog…

I’d suggest verifying that the URLs on your Options->General page are both correct. You may need an ending slash (or not need one).

I guess I need to replace my entire WP folder in upgrading from 2.2.1 to 2.2.3. It seems the file list on the page moshu suggested is true only for 2.2.2->2.2.3 upgrade.
