comments // numbers & formatting

  • Hi,

    I have installed word press and am trying to set up my comment to be displayed how i want them but am having some trouble, i am not very good at this stuff but really want to learn.

    Please could anybody advise me on how to get the number of the comment to appear next to the author title and adjust them to line up under the post being commented on.

    I have tried and tried but i dont get it..

    The number that comes up next to the post is something different and i dont know what i am putting in the line

    <?php comment_ID() ?>

    to bring it up but i just want the number of the comment for that post.

    Plz Help ??

    if i put this line in it doesnt give the muber of the comment in the post but the number of the comment on the whole blog.

    how do i alter it to just display the number of the comment in different posts
