• First off, the Forum here needs “2.3” added to its version dropdown.

    When I imported my UTW tags into 2.3, it went and imported them with dashes instead of spaces (as this is how UTW stores them, IIRC). Trouble is, 2.3 seems particular about keeping those spaces, even if I try to edit the tag to ditch the dash in favor of a space. The importer would work better if it just turned dashes into spaces.

    Secondly, any time a category and tag name overlap, I’m forced to use the same capitalization as in the category. I like my categories capitalized and my tags un-capitalized. This seems to be impossible now when there’s overlap.

    Sorry if I’m being nitpicky, but this is the type of stuff that keeps me up at night… ??

    After poking around, I found the Tag Managing Thing plugin, which will at least let me get rid of dashes, after painstakingly editing every more-than-one-word tag I have. Better than nothing.

    Well 2.3 is obviously designed to kill off UTW.

    “Kill off” is a bit strong. UTW is indeed ceasing in favor of supplementing the new built in tag system though.

    Matt made it pretty clear. Upgrade to 2.3 and no need for UTW. I dont agree myself. UTW was pretty cool.

    I’m not griping that UTW is gone per se. I’m quite happy that tags are integrated into the core. I’m just not completely content with every way in which the native tagging currently operates.

    Nobody is ??

    did they fix the stupid error, where if you imported all your categories to TAG, the categories disappeared? it happened in the release candidate. Does that still happen?

    If you are familiar with mysql run the following update statement to remove the dashes in a single command:

    update wp_terms set name=replace(name, ‘-‘, ‘ ‘);

    No. I hadn’t read this and I didn’t know that “converter” really meant converter, deleting categories when tags are created. Luckily, I suspected as such and converted only one category (which was assigned to only one post). As I love the hierarchy of categories, I won’t be using that converter again!

    I just can’t get the point of tags really. I even googled the issue and read a few articles about them, but still don’t see the purpose. I understand that they are like keywords, but I never really saw the point in keywords, either. I mean, if I’m searching for something, wouldn’t I just use the search function?

    The only way I could see tags as being useful is if every word in a post is a tag, aside from articles, pronouns, prepositions, and such. In that manner, a user could simply click on a word s/he wants to search for and all the posts containing that word would be displayed.

    My whine?

    I liked having a list of existing tags available. I like to reuse tags. I miss UTW.

    Swap UTW for Simple Tags then. They’re both plugins…
