• I have to admit, that I’m heavily annoyed by the way the 2.5 admin turned out. I’m using WordPress for years now and with every update it got better. But this one is a step back, by graphic design as by functionality.

Drag’n’drop widgets gone. Huzzah! back to olden days…
Admin-GUI by no means more accessible or more ordered, you find nothing

And my biggest concern is the new post-GUI: EVERYTHING lined up in one row? gimme a break! categories UNDER the post, so i have to scroll? Image-insertion in a popup??? You cannot be serious?

I installed Fluency to get the admin panel a little more bearable, but I will definitely go back to 2.3.3, I certainly hope there will be security-updates for that version. If not, I will probably switch to another software altogether.

A pity, since I tested quite some blog softwares and WordPress was my favourite…

  • I’ve incorporated some of the other changes from eric23, Sapphire, vintagepretty and Mr. vintagepretty and added the “drafts” link back to the Write Post and Write Page panels because that was bugging me, too.

    Here is a pic: https://persistentillusion.com/new-page.jpg

    Here are the files: https://persistentillusion.com/wp-admin-fix.zip

All the files go in the wp-admin folder. Y’all know the drill. ??

jabecker – do you have any ideas as to how we can get the old-style drafts back at the top, i.e. their names so we don’t have to go to the individual drafts page to find the one we want? That was a great idea and was used lots by myself. (Mr. VP’s plan is to find which bit of 2.3.x it was that did that and try to put it back – but as yet no luck, any ideas?).

Brill bit of patching btw ??

    eric23, Sapphire, vintagepretty and jabecker,

Thanks for your work. Been following this thread and it seems as the user to user forum has been successful in collaborating on what should prove to be a popular enhancement.

Yeah nice work indeed. I was going to use jQuery to make those items drag and drop, much like widgets in 2.3.3 but your solution is nicer.

By the way, one of you may want to submit your work to the News section of weblogtoolscollection.com

    Sure. Why not? ??

Skip that. It didn’t work. I’m going to remove the link but it won’t let me edit my post.

OK. Let’s try this one more time, now. I think this will work. Please someone try it out and see. Thanks.

DL, saved in my admin folder, started a new post. As soon as I tabbed from the title, got “Draft Saved at 9:40:58 am.” Just below the Save and Publish buttons.

Forgot to finish with works great and thank you. ??

It’s brilliant! That now makes WP 2.5 far more useful to me – who was it who said that this forum wasn’t useful?!?!?!

Jabecker – is there any way we can publish this for those folks who are desperate to resolve their problems with 2.5 – is there anyone here who knows how to make an admin-plugin, this would be an ideal candidate.

    Thanks again!

Yeah, if we can’t make this a plugin, I’d at least suggest you post this in TRAC! Great job.

@ Len K – You should still work on your drag ‘n’ drop functionality man! That’d be cool.

Additionally, how can we figure out a way to restore the 2.3.3 widget interface in 2.5? Drag ‘n’ drop must return! Or at least a way to move text/rss widgets from one sidebar to another. It’s currently impossible! See this trac ticket I started on the matter and voice your support!

    https://trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/6556

I’m afraid my mad codr skilz (ha ha) do not extend to making this a plugin, although that would be wonderful! I’d be happy to see someone do that.

In the meantime, I have opened https://trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/6709 and attached the combined changes. So please voice your support and hopefully this will get added in soon. Personally, I’d hate to have to make this hack every time there’s a new version.

I absolutely agree with this! It’s nice to have stuff back in the sidebar, but even better would be the ability to put it where I want it.

I didn’t make any changes to that part of it. That’s just how 2.5 works.

I would like to revert BACK to previous WP version 2.3.3
Any ideas how I could do that?
    Thanks.

Providing you’ve got a back up of your pre 2.5 database its quite simple. A search should throw up a couple of recent threads. I did.
