2.5 upgrade changes excerpt behavior?

  • It used to be, in earlier versions of WP, that I could simply enter content into the Excerpt box, and the main page would display my excerpt, rather than the whole post.

    Since the upgrade to 2.5.1, this behavior seems to have changed. I can enter content but nothing happens, and below the excerpt box I am advised to read all about the_excerpt(); tag.

    Am I crazy, or did this change? And if it changed, how can this be considered an improvement?
