    Hi

I was using WordPress 2.5, and I installed the WPAU plugin to upgrade to 2.5.1. The upgrade process was successful, including the ‘Upgrading the Database’ page.
However, since then, I have been unable to login. I enter the correct username and password, only to have the login page reload, with the ‘Please log in again’ error message. Repeating this does not solve the problem. I tried requesting a new password using the ‘Forgot Password?’ link, but entering an email id/password in the field again causes the screen to simply refresh with the error message ‘ERROR: Enter a username or e-mail address.’ appearing on screen.

My login page is at https://blog.severeanomaly.org/wp-login.php
    According to my PHPMyAdmin page:
    localhost Server version: 5.0.27-standard
    phpMyAdmin – 2.11.4
    MySQL client version: 4.1.22

I believe that my plugins are not re-enabled post installation, something seems to have gotten screwed up once it updated the database. I have tried restoring a backup, but I get corrupted archives errors when I try to extract the backup ZIP file.

Additionally, in the error_log I see:
    [28-Apr-2008 16:07:24] WordPress database error Table ‘severe_wrdp1.wp_users’ doesn’t exist for query SELECT * FROM wp_users WHERE ID = 1 LIMIT 1 made by get_userdata

However, the SQL database does have a ‘wp_users’ field.

Incidentally, on a second blog at https://lifezlikethat.severeanomaly.org , I am unable to login as well, however, this blog shows no error message in the log.

    Please help !

  • Yes, got the same here – can’t login and just redirects to the home page with a 404. Oops.

    The URLs are:
    https://blog.severeanomaly.org/wp-login.php
    https://lifezlikethat.severeanomaly.org

I think there is a typo in the URLs I posted earlier.

I know it is impossible to reproduce the issue without a login, however, I cannot add a new user to the database without logging in. If anyone can tell me how to set it up from the backend, I could set up a test login to debug the issue.

Satish, I think the problem here is generic rather than specific to your bog.

I was also asked to upgrade the database but that should have rung the alarm bells anyway as to why it was asking. Surely going from 2.5.0 to 2.5.1 shouldn’t require a DB update.

Teach me to actually jump in on an update when first announced.

Surely going from 2.5.0 to 2.5.1 shouldn’t require a DB update.

It does for a security enhancement. The size of the database’s secret key was increased from 8 to 64 characters.

It appears to have cleared up. I’m not sure what happened. I re-upgraded via WPAU and everything went off without a hitch. The plugins were not automatically re-enabled, and k2 broke, but otherwise everything seems fine.

To access WPAU you’d have had to have logged in Satish so did you go the SQL route to establish new users?

My login issue has been sorted. Confirm that WPAU does not reactivate plugins after the DB upgrade – or rather the option does not reappear after – but other than that, fine. WP-Cloner is broken, but that’s it on the downside so far.

Satish, how did you run the upgrade again without logging in? I am having the exact same problem.

    s.
