At the moment I have 45 authors listed in my sidebar. It’s a long list and it’s just going to get worse. Does anyone know of a good solution for organizing these lists? I’m thinking it would good to be able to list the top authors and then have a “more authors” link.

I’m not keen on a drop-down since it’s just going to be a very long drop-down.

I’m afraid I didn’t see anything on that page that related to my question, which is how can I organize a very long list of author names/links in my sidebar.

The page you linked to contains instructions on how to use the wp_list_authors tag (which I’m already using) and instructions on how to use an authors.php template (which doesn’t relate to how to organize my sidebar).

I’m thinking it would good to be able to list the top authors and then have a “more authors” link.

a few in the sidebar linking to an author page?

    Hmmm, I could do that.

I could manually set up a list for the fifteen or so most prolific authors and have a “more” link that revealed the entire list from a hidden div — but it would mean having to update the list manually as authors contributed more articles.

It’s not a very tempting solution from the point of view of maintenance, though. But it’s worth thinking about unless there’s no better solution.

    Any other ideas out there?

It occurs to me that an array of icons would be a compact way to present a large number of authors. I already have images of all the authors and those could be adapted.

Titles would show the author names as tooltips.

It would look like the “members” icon list in the sidebar of this ning group: https://sgibuddhism.ning.com/

Anyone know of an way to do this in WordPress — automatically, I mean? Any plugins that could be adapted to do this?

To answer my own question, the author avatars plugin provides exactly what I’m looking for.
