• Since upgrading to WP 2.7, the Other WordPress News RSS feed (widget) in the Admin Dashboard refuses to load.

When checking the widget’s Configure link, the default https://planet.www.ads-software.com/feed/ url is replaced with a Error: could not find an RSS or ATOM feed at that URL. error message. The planet.www.ads-software.com feed loads fine directly in my browser, and I can load other feeds in that same Other WordPress News widget. Other Dashboard feeds continue to work as well. But whenever trying to use the feed from planet.www.ads-software.com (and variations of that feed’s url), it doesn’t work. The feed worked fine in previous versions of WP.

    Any ideas?

    Appreciate any help/info.

  • well…………………
    I tried this url:
https://www.improvingtheweb.com/feed/ and it works great with no problems…

now I have my original rss and the one above working with no problems…

just had to replace the wp-admin folder….

    on last point to make…

everytime I update the theme widgets I have to reinstall the wp-admin…

wp listen up… This is getting old… auto upgrade the wp-admin when the theme widgets are updated… lol

    Noelinfo:

Thank you for posting all this. Since you seem like a really nice guy, can I ask: could you please provide the step-by-step on reinstalling the wp-admin? I don’t even remember where this wretched little bugger lives.

I would never have dreamed that anything as clunky and fractured as WordPress would ever come into such wide use.

“Short description: WordPress is a blogging software with a focus on ease of use, elegance, performance, and standards with a huge selection of themes and plugins.”

BWAAaaaaaaHAAAAAAhaaaaaaaaaHAAAAAAAA, she says, losing it completely after a day of staring at arcane bits of unintelligible gibberish and visiting 16,000 different sites.

The upgrade option is under Tools in your blog dashboard. It is a good idea to keep current with new WP releases as they fix security vulnerabilities also.

If this doesn’t work you can download 2.7.1 at https://www.ads-software.com/download/ … you can then upload the files via your domain control panel or with an ftp program.

Unzip the files and upload them via ftp to the directory or folder on your domain that your wordpress is located, but before you do this… check to make sure the quicktags.js located in the \wordpress\wp-includes\js doesn’t have 0 for the file size. It should read… size 16.5 kbs.

Having problem with download of ver 2.7.1 – everything unzips fine EXCEPT quicktags.js. The solution is to download the quicktags.js which is loacated in \wordpress\wp-includes\js before you upload the files.

This will replace the quicktags.js which reads 0 kbs with the new downloaded quicktags.js which is 16.5 kbs as stated above.

For some unknown reason all the plugins do not work toggether. Some times when you activate a plugin, the plugin on the plugin page disappear.

If you have problems with your plugins page disappearing when your logged into your dashboard, you can fix this by removing the last widget plugin via your domain login by clicking on your file manager.

NOTE:[[Just remember the plugin you activated before the plugins disappeared. This will make it easier to delete this plugin to bring back the plugin list on your plugin page.]]

On the left site menu, scroll down to public_html and click on the folder and scroll down to the folder where your wordpress is loacated.

Click the folder icon and it will show the folders for your wordpress blog. Now click on the wp-content icon and then click on the word plugins. Now all your plugins will be in the right side window. Click or check the plugin you need to remove and at the top of the page click delete. Now the plugin is deleted and the plugins in your dashboard should be back.

    Steve, thanks so much.

Very shortly after my previous post here, I noticed there was an upgrade to 2.7.1. I clicked on the upgrade link and it worked. After a reboot I was suddenly able to get RSS feeds to ‘take’ – mostly, not 100% of the time.

Have been meaning to get back here and post that that was the solution, at least for me.

I’ll be copying your advice above and saving it for reference.

There’s still an issue that sometimes, without warning results in this error message:
Warning: Attempt to assign property of non-object in /home/–username–/public_html/wp-includes/rss.php on line 449
This happened yesterday with a feed that was previously working fine.

Because it displays the blog owner’s webhost username, it’s a security risk – I have no idea how many hours my webhost username was out there for the world to see.

    and in footer.php

    <>a href=”<?php bloginfo(‘comments_rss2_url’); ?>” title=”<?php _e(‘The latest comments to all posts in RSS’); ?>” class=”rss”>Comments <?php _e(‘<abbr title=”Really Simple Syndication”>RSS</abbr>’); ?><>
