• There are SO many things wrong with 2.8 that I simply cannot list them all. Here are the highlights…

    • Widget Page – I know we all wanted to be able to move widgets around, but this ‘solution’ is laughable at best. It is VERY slow. Once you have widgets in place you cannot again move them. They are stuck. You must delete them and start over. The sidebars often do not open/close. Trying to add widgets only creates new ’emply’ widget place holders at the bottom of the sidebar. This is a HUGE screw-up and it’s nearly impossible to work with. Regarding the place to put widgets removed it’s a stupid idea. Waste of page space. The ONLY postive thing is that you can now copy/paste code inside the widget.
    • Editing plug-ins – This area seems to have a mind of it’s own. Sometime you can edit code, but most of the time it simply locks up and you are forced to dump the page and then pull the plug-in from the directory manually. This never happened on 2.7.1.
    • The ‘claim’ that 2.8 is way faster is false. It is just the opposite. I use Atahualpa 3.3.3 by BFA WebDesign and previously had page loads of less than 1 second. Always. Now I see 6’s, 10’s, 20’s with the EXACT same content.
These items are not all, but they alone make this upgrade a horror to work with and will do nothing but drive people away from WordPress. It’s that bad!

2.8 should have never been released. It is no where near ready. I certainly hope WordPress has some MAJOR updates to 2.8 VERY soon. They have nearly put many Bloggers out of business.

    Darlene,

Sorry to hear about the problems. If the hosting company can set files and database both back to your pre-2.8 state, then you should be fine.

I like it better when inactives were seperated from actives, and it makes absolutely no sense to have changed it.

I agree. However, there is now selections at the top to allow you to pick only inactives, actives, etc. Might help a bit.

I will let you know if this works once I hear back from my hosting company. So far it appears not to have been done as the Dashboard is still a mess.

    Darlene

Yeah… I initially looked at the plugins page and thought… OH MY GOD, THEY ARE ALL DEACTIVATED!

Why would you go from colored = activated to white = activated? Makes NO SENSE!

I take back everything I said! I AM NOW HAVING PROPLEMS.

I removed the links widget from my sidebar because it would not let me remove the “Show Decription” option…thinking readding it would allow me to modify it.

    NOPE.

Now it would let me add the widget back.

I realize this issue will be fixed…but just what am I supposed to tell my clients????! Thanks to this update, I may well end up losing money.

    EDIT:
I saw the link to the FAQ and found this:
Try these things to resolve problems with Widgets such as not able to drag and drop
    1. A number of plugins have been reported to present problems so deactivate all plugins and reactivate one-by-one to find culprit

    2. In Appearance->Widgets under Screen options, try the Enable Accessibility Mode

    3. Delete or refresh the browser cache

    SOLUTION:
    #2 did the trick…thank God.

WP has a pretty good track record, so as long as it isn’t costing me money, I’ll be more patient now.

I would suggest a fast update enabling #2 (by default) right away.

Upgrading is one thing. Actually working on the upgraded website is another. I already “lost” one website due to the upgrade. And before you say that I have to look at my plugins, I just installed a fresh WordPress with 2 plugins, one being Akismet and the other upload+.

I went to options to change my time and my site crashed. This kind of thing has never in my history with WordPress happpened before and I have been using it since version 1.5. This is seriously the worse upgrade ever.

You have a very good point. I too thought the upgrade had gone fine…until I started adjusting the layout (widgets for example) of the website.

    ANOTHER ISSUE:
WP is not displaying correctly in FireFox. I heard this second hand, installed FireFox, and experienced the same issues. Menues drop down and colors are changed in FireFox. My video box doesn’t even display. And this is the case on 5 different WP websites.

    COMMENT:
It seems to me, people should not have to “dig” for solutions when upgrading. It should go smoothly.

Keep in mind, many, many Web Develops set up websites and those clients that have WP are freaking right about now. This upgrade is adding unneeded stress.

And btw…when upgrading, the backup should automatically be done and an option to restore should be added.

I have been restored (site and database) and got rid of Gixax Chat plugin. Everything seems OK. Hopefully it will stay that way. Dashboard is finally working again.

    Upgrade still sux…
