    Greetings!

I just upgraded to 2.9.2. When I run the /wp-admin/upgrade.php I get the (correct) message that a database upgrade is required. Clicking the “upgrade wp database” button results in it churning for a minute or so, then I’m presented with a screen with nothing but the WP logo.

From a user perspective, the blog looks fine. And acts fine. You can even post comments to it.

But when I try to login in at /wp-admin/, I’m presented with the screen again telling me I need to update the database.

So apparently (I assume) the database upgrade failed.

I *think* I was upgrading from 2.8.6, but am not certain.

    Any thoughts?

Hi esmi – thanks for the swift response. I did the auto-upgrade, and then retried upgrading manually. Still have the problem after manually upgrading. (sorry, I should have put that in the original post)

The DB version showing in phpMyAdmin is 11548 — which appears to be the DB version for WP 2.8 – 2.8.4. So I’m wondering if it would be “safe” to downgrade back to 2.8.4, just so I can access by blog admin?

It might be worth a try but I’d suggest you backup the database before trying this. As for why the initial upgrade failed, did you deactivate all plugins before running the upgrade? If not, resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin might allow you push the upgrade through.

Hangs head in shame and admits he did not disable plugins prior to upgrading.

Re-installing 2.8.6 got me back in.

I’ll try upgrading again, the right way, without taking stupid shortcuts.

    Thanks for the help!
