2FA authentication is not working. I disabled the previous authentication and tried to do a fresh setup with Google Authenticator and again with Authy. But in both the cases, it is not working.

  • Having the exact same issue. I have Premium with 2FA. However in order to access Premium Support, you have to be able to log in, and I can’t log in because the 2FA isn’t working. SO I’m locked out of my Premium account.

    Maybe they’ve been hacked lol

    Hi @dekajayanta,

Are you referring to 2FA with the Wordfence plugin on your site, or 2FA to your Wordfence.com account like @shorelarkbythesea?

If it’s your account on our site, you can send an email to lockout @ wordfence . com and provide the email address or username that is associated with the account so that we can assist further.

If you’re referring to 2FA on your site, can you get past the successful setup stage, but then get prevented from logging in later, or does it never match the code to set up 2FA in the first place? If you can set it up, do the recovery codes provided to you work when the code shown on your authenticator app doesn’t? Are there any specific error messages or behaviors you’re seeing?

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hi Peter,
Thanks for your reply. No, I am not facing any issue in logging onto Wordfence website. That’s working perfectly.
The problem is with the login on my website. I tried to first use the Google Authenticator code, then the recovery codes. Both did not work. Then I disabled 2FA and it was working properly. Then I configured it afresh. It was working then. But, after I logged out and tried to login again, the codes are not accepted. Nor the recovery codes.
I think it could be an issue with the time settings. But, I did not change anything. The 2FA process was working properly earlier.

Here’s a snapshot of the time:

    Server Time: 2022-03-17 12:48:20 UTC (2022-03-17 18:18:20 Asia/Kolkata)
    Browser Time: Thu, 17 Mar 2022 12:48:22 GMT (Thu Mar 17 2022 18:18:22 GMT+0530 (India Standard Time))
    Corrected Time (NTP): 2022-03-17 12:48:20 UTC (2022-03-17 18:18:20 Asia/Kolkata)

    Hi @dekajayanta,

The times there do seem consistent enough to match up, even when unified across timezones. If the date/time didn’t match on your device I would expect the 2FA feature to never activate as it’d be wrong then too.

I think we could be looking at a conflict. Plugin or theme conflicts stopping our Javascript from loading correctly or causing errors that mean our code doesn’t get run. Generally, reverting back to a default theme and disabling all plugins except for Wordfence should hopefully get your login button functions back. If it does, re-enable everything else one-by-one until the issue returns to find the source of the issue.

Let me know if none of that helps, perhaps supported by screenshots of your Browser Console displaying red Javascript errors, which can be uploaded to a service like Snipboard and shared here for us to take a closer look at.

    Thanks again,

    Peter.
