• Hi all,

    Have run into a bit of an issue, we recently had someone log into our admin portal and had some changes to pages. I’ve deleted the accounts they created and have changed the requirement for Admin accounts to have 2FA enforced. I set it up for my account while still logged into the admin portal however when I try to log back in it keeps coming back with code not valid. Using Google Authenticator. Now that I’ve changed the requirement for 2FA enforced, I’m not able to log into the second admin account either as it says login blocked and 2FA needs to be set up, but I can’t login to set it up.

    Is there anything that could be stopping / blocking this for the account I created even though I’ve set up 2FA already? Time Zone? I’ve checked time on phone and laptop and it’s matching, does it have to be set to something different? I can’t think of anything else and now have lost access to the site completely.

    Any help would be so appreciated, I’m at my end of trying everything

    Thanks

    Adrian

    @gswebdev

    It wasn’t a plugin, it was just the inbuilt 2FA on WordPress

    Sorry I’m not sure if this is the right forum to ask this, I thought I’ll try here first see if anyone has any suggestions

    WordPress does not have a built-in 2FA. Either you use a plugin or your project is on wordpress.COM. A link to your page could possibly clear up the mystery.

    @threadi Apologies! I’ve had a look and it’s Wordfence I believe, I’m a bit new to WordPress so didn’t even realise

    @threadi Thank you for getting back to me as well, really appreciate it

    If I understand correctly, you can no longer log in to the backend due to the 2FA. To solve this you have to remove the plugin that is causing this. Since you don’t have access to the backend, you can do this via FTP, for example. Log in via FTP and remove the directory /wp-content/plugins/wordfence/. You should then be able to log in again. If you need help with the FTP connection, contact your hoster’s support.
