We’ve been using this plugin for a couple of years and it’s been great. However today all users with 2fa turned on are seeing this error after entering their 2fa code:

“The Defender file with the random key does not exist.”

The URL of the page at this point is ?wpe-login=true&action=defender-verify-otp

Is there a fix/workaround for this issue?

  • Hello @andrewspear !

I’m sorry to hear you’ve experienced this issue!

Can you try deactivating and activating Defender again and see if this fixes the issue? Upon activation Defender should recreate a special file in /wp-content/wp-defender-secrets.php which should fix the issue.

If this doesn’t help – can you let us know if you’re using any non-standard WordPress setup or server-side setup on the site involved?

    Kind regards,
    Pawel
