2nd Installation?

  • I am sure this has been covered, so I do apologise if I am repeating what’s already been said.
    I’m a new user and sucessfully managed to upload WP without any hassles. I was also wanting to upload WP for a second blog.
    I have checked through the files and have read that I need to change some things, but I was just wondering if that’s necessary is I want to upload WP to another subdirectory? For instance, I have my blog at https://www.getifa.com/hijinx, and I want to load up a new one at https://www.getifa.com/kendall – can I do just a straight installation again to that folder without changing anything?
    If I do, could someone please explain exactly what needs to be changed as I am a little confused on that issue as to whether it’s just file names or something within the files themselves…

  • The primary thing you need to change is the database prefix found in wp-config.php. The default is wp_. In order to run another WP, you’d need to change the new install’s prefix to wp2_ or whatever, as long as it differs from the first.
