Weird one here–I use this plugin on multiple sites, and it always just plugs in and goes. But in this case, it’s not loading retina images for some reason. I’ve gone through the tutorial/troubleshooting and checked out the log: it says:

“The img tag was not rewritten. No retina for… (the image path).”

If I add @2x to the image path, it’s there…and it’s twice as big as the original. ???

One thought: the server I’m testing on has a tilde (~) in the home path. For instance:

    https://xx.xx.xxx.xxx/~ieee/wp-content/themes/ieee-mat/images/logo-ieee.png

Is it possible the tilde is throwing off the pathing somehow? I feel like I’ve never had this problem on this testing server before. (BTW, tried even turning off all CSS, plugins, and javascript, and it still doesn’t find the @2x images.)

    Hello,

The title should be no problem. I think something else is happening. Can you share here your real URL? It would be interesting to see.

    Hello watermelonkid,

Can you try the Retina.js method? I believe it might work right away.

Otherwise, with PictureFill, I am not sure why it doesn’t work here. Are you using a SEO plugin with “Rewrite Titles”by any chance?

Already tried it before I posted this–no dice. This is really weird. I use the plugin all the time, even on other dev sites on this same server. I have hardly any plugins installed–no Yoast or similar title rewrites and attempted to turn all plugins off as well with no changein result. Again, the error log for the plugin specifically says it’s not FINDING the @2x images. Hmm.

I’ll keep poking around. Thanks for your time.

By any chance, is this server this only one with a ~ in the path? But even that, I think that should be fine…

Whenever I set up a dev site on the server, it always has the tilde. Almost 100% positive I’ve set it up before with other dev sites and had no issues. BUT, to be sure. I’ll mount database locally and see if anything changes to rule it out.

Maybe something is wrong with the metadata. You can try to use Regenerate Thumbnail on all your images, that might repair the metadata (and WP Retina 2x uses it).

They’re not media library images. They’re inline images.

    watermelonkid,

Sorry, I couldn’t see how to fix this easily without going on the install and try by myself. A bit difficult. But did it work at the end? By the way, did you also try Regenerate Thumbnail?

    (@watermelonkid)

Actually, never figured it out. But just ditched it based on project needs not really needing 2x. (Site was aimed toward low bandwidth, etc.)

With that said–no thumbs to regenerate. These were all inline images in templates I was concerned with. I did recheck the dimensions though to make sure they were sized properly and they were.

Thanks for your support. I’m going to drum this up to using the Materialize Google starter framework and some incompatibility there something else. For the record, I’ve set up two other sites since this on that server, and your plugin worked as it always has.

    Thanks for the great support!

Okay, then that’s super! No thumbs to re-generate? That would mean the base images aren’t existent maybe. Some theme also create the images on their own without using the WP internal sizing system, so that might be that too (but it’s really rare). I will mark this topic as resolved for now but don’t hesitate to open a new thread if you find more. Oh, and Happy New Year ??

You too–thanks for the support. (Definitely no thumbs involved as these are just images I’m creating for a custom theme.)
