How do the changes in version 3.1.4 fix the error log issues from the past few updates? Seems that in 3.1.2 the failed logins log was moved from plain text into the database, but 3.1.4 release notes say “Reintroduced the functionality to download 404 error log files from activity log.” Are they back in text files or still in the database? Thanks.

    Hello @b-rad,

Thanks for showing interest in our plugin.

Failed logins and 404 errors are different. Let me explain:

    1) In 3.1.2 we moved the failed logins log files to the database.

    2) In 3.1.2 we also added some more restrictions in the directory where the log files of 404 errors are stored. Because of these restrictions we had to temporarily disable the downloading of log files from the audit log.

    3) In 3.1.4 we re-introduced the downloading of log files of 404 errors from the audit log, though this is in no way related to failed logins log files.

For more information refer to these two documents:

How WP Security Audit Log keeps a record of WordPress failed logins
Keeping a log of 404 HTTP requests in a log file with WP Security Audit Log.

I hope the above answers your question. Should you have any further queries please do not hesitate to ask.
