• So…. trying to do the auto upgrade and winding up with some kind of FTP error … “Could not copy file: upgrade/wordpress-3.tmp/wordpress/wp-activate.php”

I see some similar problems on the boards, but not explicitly this one. Is this some kind of permissions thing? Upgrading plugins and so on has never been a problem.

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder using FTP (or use whatever file management application your host provides)

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-running the upgrade manually.

Thanks – what would I rename my current theme’s folder to? “Default”?

To avoid confusion, try something that’s definitely unique, like /nickscrazytheme/

Okay – so here’s what blows my mind:

I’ve been trying this for two days. I was about to take your suggestion above, and figured I’d try one more time. BAM! it works. I have changed nothing. Why in the world would it suddenly work? I’ve done nothing different!

It could have been a temporary server glitch.
