3.0.1 Issues log in to Dashboard 500 Error

Internal server errors (error 500) are often caused by plugin or theme function conflicts, so if you have access to your admin panel, try deactivating all plugins. If you don’t have access to your admin panel, try manually resetting your plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Default theme (WordPress 1.5 – 2.9.2) or the Twenty Ten theme (WordPress 3.0 and higher) to rule-out a theme-specific issue. If you don’t have access to your admin panel, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the Default theme (WordPress 1.5 – 2.9.2) or the Twenty Ten theme (WordPress 3.0 and higher) to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue.

If that does not resolve the issue, it’s possible that a .htaccess rule could be the source of the problem. To check for this, access your server via FTP or SFTP and rename the .htaccess file. If you can’t find a .htaccess file, make sure that you have set your FTP or SFTP client to view invisible files.

If you weren’t able to resolve the issue by either resetting your plugins and theme or renaming your .htaccess file, we may be able to help, but we’ll need a more detailed error message. Internal server errors are usually described in more detail in the server error log. If you have access to your server error log, generate the error again, note the date and time, then immediately check your server error log for any errors that occurred during that time period. If you don’t have access to your server error log, ask your hosting provider to look for you.

Unfortunately, all those log entries say is that a custom 500 error page couldn’t be found. Ask you hosting provider if they have more detailed log entries and mention that the problem occurred around Oct 19th at 23:18:34.

i found 500 error page and the 404 page in my c panel but they all are empty. if you have a script i can put it and try, if that was the problem.

No, that’s not the problem. The error log that you have access to is only reporting “File does not exist” errors. So, when the 500 error happened, it also tried to find a custom 500 error page, but couldn’t.

All your log displays is the inability to find the custom error page, which is inconsequential. Your hosting provider should have access to a log that displays all errors, including the 500 error itself.

Hello all WordPress users!

This monday i just installled wordpress 3.0.1 successfully and it worked fine for a couple of hours until this 500 error.

Has everybody with this problem solved it? What was the problem? All PHP memory issues?

I’ve tried renaming the current themefolder. Nothing happens.
I’ve only got 2 plgins. All in one seo, and a sitemap plugin. Any known problems with those?

I’ve forwarded the problem to my host who has increased the php memory but the problem remains.

Should i install a previous release? Or what should i do?

It seems like my host solved the problem but the installation is still a bit unstable… I can now log in but i got the errormessage again when updating a page. After logging in again i managed to update the page without erros… hmm…

My host had problems solving this issue but when changing from PHP 5 to PHP 4 we were able to log in.

Is it true that version 3.0.1 is unstable with PHP 5?

Not at all, in fact most (if not all) of the volunteer developers are running PHP 5, and WordPress 3.2 (due the first half of 2011) will require PHP 5.2 or higher.

More than likely, there’s something amiss with your hosting provider’s PHP configuration.

You have some thing in your cgi-bin and wordpress has nothing do to do with cgi-bin check if you have any perl script in cgi-bin.

I got the tip from my host to reinstall WordPress. And their reason is that when i installed WordPress it some how got locked with PHP 4 that was on the server hence the problem because WordPress requires PHP 5.

Anyone had this problem?

I guess the only thing left to do is to try and make a fresh installation tonight.
