• Hey guys,

I’m wondering if I could get some help with 301 redirects. I currently have a legacy HTML site, but am building a new site completely in WP. Since the new WP site has a different layout, many of the legacy links don’t work anymore.

I downloaded a 301 redirect plugin that lets you manually put in old/current html links and redirect them to the new WP links.

Is the right way to do this? I imagine I only have to do this for a while until Google indexes the new WP links. Does google frown upon this? I read that 302 redirects are bad, where 301 are okay.

  • 301 are OK whether you redirect using plugins or otherwise.

Google doesn’t ‘frown’ in redirects and 302 aren’t ‘bad’. A 301 redirect simply indicates that the redirect is a permanent one, while 302 is a temporary redirect that will be removed some time in the future.
