• While I appreciate the work done to keep WP free, I have to say, if you’re going to roll out an upgrade – why on earth would it not be tested to make sure it actually WORKS for people??

My site is now stuck in Maintenance mode – whatever that is!

    Here’s the error that happened:

    Downloading update from https://www.ads-software.com/wordpress-3.0.1.zip…

    Unpacking the update…

    Verifying the unpacked files…

    Installing the latest version…

    Could not copy file.: /public_html/wp-admin/css/theme-editor.dev.css

    Installation Failed

for the record – this is a WP Mu site, and I was JUST about to launch!!

    Help?!

  • When I click Update Automaticly, nothing happends…
I can see only this message ”Downloading update from https://www.ads-software.com/wordpress-3.0.1.zip…”
I waited minutes and minutes and nothing happends. No error, no page loading, nothing…
    Can someone help me?

kesepian – Install this plugin and try again? https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/memory-bump/

Ipstenu, I installed it, but still frozen at ”Downloading update….” ??

I got the below error, how would I get this resolved? (Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_multisite() in /…/wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 505).

I do not even have a multi site configuration.

    Regards,

    Adrian

kesepian – Can you do a manual upgrade? Your host may not allow you to use as much memory as you need to auto-upgrade.

Abeaudrian – Different kind of error, try a manual upgrade and if it fails, make a new post.

Here’s the update error I have

    Task Name: getlatestfiles
Task Description: Downloads / Uploads the latest files for wordpress
    Task Status: Failed
    Task Start Date: 2010-08-12 16:33:44
    Task End Date: 2010-08-12 16:33:44
Task Log: Starting to download the file from
Could not write to local file

Up until this upgrade all previous upgrades worked on my site.

Let me edit this to add that everything else said “Task Status: Complete”, i.e. putting it in maintenance mode worked, deactivating plug-ins, reactivating them, the whole thing seemed to work but for that one “task status: failed” that I pasted above. It’s like the upgrade worked but doesn’t see it as having worked, if you see what I mean.

flashpal, where’s that error from? Not inside WordPress, is it?

It’s the upgrade log. It says “Below is the log for the upgradation” and then the first thing listed is

    Task Name: files
Task Description: Backs up all the current files from the wordpress installation
    Task Status: Complete
    Task Start Date: 2010-08-12 16:32:45
    Task End Date: 2010-08-12 16:32:45
    Task Log:

    Task Name: backupdbopt
Task Description: Shows you the options to backup your database
    Task Status: Complete
    Task Start Date: 2010-08-12 16:33:06
    Task End Date: 2010-08-12 16:33:06
    Task Log:

And so on and the only one that has a “failed” is the one I posted above. I think my upgrade program is working from upgrade plug-in program. Not sure, but this is what it says above the log:

    TASK OUTPUT
Some problems did not allow us to upgrade your blog. This most likely ocurred due to file permission issues, you can find a workaround for the issue by visiting this forum post on WPAU forums.

If that does not solve your problem please post on the forum and I will definitely take a look at the issue.

Well, I deactivated the upgrade plug-in after hitting my forehead and saying “duh” and that solved the problem. I am now using 3.01.

ROTFL. I was sitting her pouring over my sites trying to find this log! ??

As a reminder, the first debug step is to turn off all plugins and try the upgrade again.

    I’m stuck at:

    Downloading update from https://www.ads-software.com/wordpress-3.0.1.zip.

    Unpacking the update.

I already tried to deactivate all plugins and increase the memory in wp-config.php, but still fail to upgrade WP to 3.0.1.

FYI, I checked wp-content folder and there was a file named wordpress-3.tmp.

Your server may lack the necessary server-side software to unpack the archive. Try a manual upgrade instead.

Well guys, I have good news.
Today I tried again to automatically update, and it worked as a charm without doing anything…

And there is why I bang my head, kesepian. *sigh* It’s some weird combo of PHP, hosts, servers and WordPress that’s affecting a small number of users. Which… sucks ??

I have still having this problem. I can’t use automatic install for anything be it wordpress itself or just a plugin. All very frustrating and baffling
