• I just updated to v3.1 It just so happens that I am learning how to embed a QuickTime video into a Post. Now, the post editor no longer shows the embedded video button.

The only option available is the Movie button at the top of the editor window, but that only creates a link to a movie in the post.

Where did the embedded video options go?

I think the simple answer is that the video box you’re referring to was removed.

Wow that sucks. Please make a admin option or so. Please, I loved that yellow box because I could set the width and height easaly.

OK, if the embedded video button was removed, how are we supposed to do an embedded video without manually coding it? I’m trying to set this up for a non-tech person to use. His training session is tomorrow evening.

I have a backup of 3.0.5 on my local computer. Can I simply overwrite the 3.1 files, or will this cause database failures?

Edit: I thought that it would be appropriate to start a new topic on methods to back out update 3.1. That post appears to have been deleted by forum moderators. Is this some kind of taboo topic? What have I gotten myself into, here? I’m not familiar with the open source world.

When I saw the yellow banner last night asking me to “please” upgrade to v3.1, I assumed that this was a security update.

I didn’t expected that they removed some basis features. If I knew this I didn’t update. But allright, I’ll edit it by code then.

I’m having the same issue. If I go and copy an embed code, place it into the HTML, then go back to Visual, I don’t see any yellow box.

Please don’t suggest I use the Viper Plug In. I’ve tried it and it doesnt work like I want it to.

    Any suggestions?

same issue with yellow box. I need to have it in order to ensure the smooth running on my site.

Viper plugin doesn’t work for me either.

Just to check: are you aware that you no longer need to use embed code for most video services?

Once you’ve set the default size in Settings > Media, you can simply paste the URL from the YouTube, Vimeo, Blip and other video services.

WordPress will automatically embed the video.

    Just thought I’d ask …

When I try this with a QuickTime movie from the local media gallery, all I get is a clickable link.

I read in another post on the trouble-shooting forum that it is documented in the 3.1 release notes, that the embedded video feature has not yet been released for 3.1.

For movies already uploaded to the media gallery, is the second button to the right of Upload/Insert not correctly inserting that QT movie?

jcollier: Because I get sent the embed codes directly. Also, I have QT videos that I post. Most of them autostart. I used to be able to set it to off in the old WordPress versions.

I have successfully reverted my installation back to 3.0.5 and have my working embedded video functions back. Happy days.

These are the instructions that I followed to roll the 3.1 installation back:

get the previous version you were running, then unzip it … copy everything but the wp-content folder to where ever your WP folder/files are … and when you go to open your site-admin it may tell you it needs to do a database update click ok to that and bam every thing is back up and running.

This won’t show a yellow box, but it works with most popular video sites, Quicktime and Windows Media (for anyone that still uses it.)

The videos can be re-sized in the plugin’s options menu, which is handy if you change themes. You don’t have to re-size videos one by one by one.

It works fine with WP 3.1. I use it on multiple sites.

    Video Embedder Plugin

The video button should keep for those who want to post the old way.
    Bad move !

Thanks for the help gestroud. I’ll try that out.

This plugin will help you guys ( Youtube with Style ) but only ro embed Youtube videos with one click.

But whats the reason that wordpress toke out the Embed Button?
