• I just updated to v3.1 It just so happens that I am learning how to embed a QuickTime video into a Post. Now, the post editor no longer shows the embedded video button.

The only option available is the Movie button at the top of the editor window, but that only creates a link to a movie in the post.

Where did the embedded video options go?

  • I would like to be added to the growing list of voices who are very upset that such a useful feature would be left out of the current version. Clients like WP because it is relatively easy for them to use. Most of my clients are musicians who need to be able to post samples of their music for their prospective clients, and it simply would not work to post this stuff to a public site and then use arcane shortcodes to repost it back to their own site. It’s ridiculous to ask people to do this.

Is there even anyone on this thread who was part of the team that made this terrible decision?

I can’t believe such a gross oversight flew by the radar. I don’t mean to sound ungrateful for WP, but I am really disappointed. Please tell me this is temporary…

I’ve been trying to follow all the threads on this and I am confused. Some people are recommending a “Viper” plugin as a substitute for the embed media button for users adding their own content (not from an external site), but the plugin is specifically for adding video from an external site, according to its description, so it is hardly a solution for embedding, for example, sound files from one’s own media library.

I saw where a WP coder said the embed media button was not legal for WP to use, but he also said he couldn’t believe anyone ever used it. Huh? Why is that? Is there some better way for users to embed their own media content? Where is that?

My clients were using this button to embed MP3 samples of their music, with a player, on their pages. Is there a plugin that can add this functionality back, in the form of a simple button like the one we lost?

    Thank you.

Oh, also, I saw that the button did not ever exist on multisite, and it sounded like the thread was all about that, but I am not running multisite, and do not have the button. Is that the way it’s supposed to be? Gone for even single site installations?

That’s correct. There were licensing issues and the relevant script had to be removed. It won’t be coming back.

Thank you–for some reason adding the word “embed” to my search had given me less optimal results. ??

For anyone looking to do the same, I ended up with MP3J Player, which I really like. Took me hardly any time to set up and use, but has some nice options if you want a custom look to your player.

Thanks again for the speedy reply, esmi.

    Oops–that should be “MP3 jplayer.”

    You’re welcome ??

Hey everyone…. I think I’ve discovered the problem of why “some” theme won’t auto-interpret the video link.

In Admin/settings/media/ you need to set the “WIDTH” of the video.
For some reason only the “height” has info in it, but not the width. When I did that, I just posted the link in the visual editor, and it auto-interpreted the link and posted the video like it’s supposed to.

Anyway, a possible fix for those using 3.2.1 and maybe otherwise.
