• so i installed wordpress on a godaddy server. everything was going fine until i tried to fix a slight probem and screwed the whole thing up.

first problem: i bought the domain name hollywoodoncrack.com via godaddy… during the setup process of transferring from my wordpress domain to my godaddy one, it became hollywoodoncrack.com/wordpress.

i tried to fix the problem (i didnt want the /wordpress in the domain)

i went into the backend and went to the settings.. where it had the domain name (which at the time was hollywoodoncrack.com/wordpress and took out the /wordpress part and saved it. now it messed up my whole site layout and i CANNOT log into the back end of my site anymore.

can anyone help me regain access to the administrative/backend of my site? would be much appreciated. thanks in advance

  • Got a video showing step-by-step how to fix this problem. It’s one that seems to pop up here at least once a day. However, some Mod has decided those free help videos can’t be linked here. So, see the following and then while you are there look for the tag called “Locked out” and you will find help.

STOP moderating figaro’s links – these are very helpfull – samboll

whats up mod? why delete the link. get off the high horse, i need help with this.

thanks figaro, i appreciate your help

could you put the link back, i have a similar problem…now its all messed up

Consider using phpMyAdmin to make sure your wp_options table has the correct values in siteurl and home.

siteurl is your WordPress address (URL) and home is your Blog Address (URL).

    And, some other info:
    https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/

It might be useful for people offering help to the WordPress community, and people asking for help as well, to be treated in an adult fashion.

    Why delete Figaro’s link ?

If there is an issue users need not / should not be told about please state that openly. Otherwise what is wrong here?

I just want to chime in that Figaro’s tutorials are invaluable for non-techie persons like myself. He speaks in plain english and shows you how to do things step by step. I’ve never found ANYTHING in this forums more helpful. I spent about 3 days trying to figure out how to move my blog from one domain/server to another, and kept running into problems. Luckily, I found Figaro’s link before the moderator removed it. In the name of keeping this information free, I’m reposting a link to his site. If someone removes it, I’d appreciate a clear explanation why MichaelH’s links are allowed, but not Figaro’s.

Site map to Figaro’s vids can be found here:

    Hello MichaelH..

Lets try to analyze why you feel Figaros videos / links cannot be linked here..
Is it because you dont know how to do videos yourself, perhaps your feeling a little outclassed or is it jealousy spawned by an inferiority complex.
Quite frankly reading doesn’t cut it for me and obviously it doesn’t cut it for many others as well. However, Videos coupled with reading material always seems to put the puzzle together.. Tell me.., why do you think Google bought YouTube, way back when.. why do you think videos are the fastest and most powerful medium on the net.

Do you think Google didn’t see something here. Just think if they acted like you. Their vision obviously superseded their ego. Remember ..”Pride Goethe before the Fall”..Thats why Google is number one.. You on the other hand must feel that by putting up roadblocks because it infringes upon your moderator status are signs of psychological inadequacies.
and to put it bluntly your actions are those of a sore loser..

Sort of like the parent who got kicked off the field for yelling at the coach because the coach wasn’t fair to their child..
Tell me, are you going to moderate this post for being blunt and truthful.
    Lets see..

    MichaelH;

I went through days of ‘Googling’ and readin information on how to move my www.ads-software.com blog from my root directory to a subdirectory. I read everything related to this I could find in WordPress doc’s, and it all was so dry and technical that I was still confused and filled with trepidation at the prospect of attempting it. I kept looking until I literally ‘stumbled’ upon a link to a video at educhalk.org by someone identified as “Figaro”. His video was extremely helpful and easy to follow and I was able to make short work of the move without any problems.

I couldn’t figure out why a link to his videos was not included in your forums until I started reading comments from other users, including Figaro. I don’t presume to know what motivated you to remove those links, nor to fail to comment on your (or WordPress’s) reasons for doing such. But I have to agree with the comments in the post/reply by “thecoffeedude” (see previous comment) as to the possible motivation. It seems others are having the same issues.

Why have you removed the links to these helpful & invaluable videos that make it so much easier for WordPress users to make use of WordPress and not consider going to another blogging platform. Please explain this to all of us and, better yet, restore the links!
