[Plugin: DB Cache Reloaded] An interesting discovery in relation to CPU utilisation
-
I have something very interesting to report to current and potential users of DB Cache Reloaded.
My host (Bluehost) recently implemented CPU throttling which basically means when you go over your CPU cycles quota your account gets throttled – meaning no CPU for an alloted amount of time.
I have been busy the past few weeks at trying to address this as I was getting an average of between 3000 and 4000 throttled seconds per day. A whole hour every 24 hour slot! Part of the exercise has been to identify CPU hungry plugins and several home grown functions. I got rid of around 10 plugins and although CPU throttling decreased slightly – it still remained high (between 2500 and 3500 secs per day).
Up until a couple of days ago I was running WP Super Cache and still experiencing the CPU throttling as described above. For a day or so I ran WP Super Cache side by side with DB Cache Reloaded with no impact on CPU throttling.
The good news I have to report is: I now have DB Cache Reloaded running without any other caching plugins together with PHP enabled compression and guess what? My account has not been throttled once since – that is not one CPU second throttled in the past 24 hours! (Ever since running DB Cache Reloaded a la solo).
Magic!!
I’m a happy customer and recommend this plugin for caching above all others.
