• Hello,

When I recently updated to v3.3 I found myself unable to update my plugins to go along with it. Instead I received the following message:

    “Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access /dev/wp-admin/update.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”

I checked the file permissions, and they are set to 644, so I am not sure what the issue is. I’ve also attempted to reinstall the update as well as replace the update.php file itself.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

How did you reinstall the update? Manually? If not, try that.

I have tried to reinstall it manually and through the update panel, but no dice. I still receive the error upon attempting to update the plugins.

Delete the folder wp-content/upgrade and try again. That problem happened to some people as far back as 2.7, and always turned out to be weird permission issues.

Unfortunately it still doesn’t seem to be doing anything. If it helps, I’ve looked into the “Upgrade” folder and it never has anything in it and is always set to “755” prior to me replacing it…

I seem to be having an issue with this too. I’m not getting the access forbidden message, just a blank screen after I put in the FTP info. Permissions look good from as far as I can tell, I’ve deleted and remade the upgrade folder and have verify FTP is working outside of WordPress. Is there an error log I can look at?
