• So just finished redoing a website for a client yesterday, get the 3.3 rollout today and upgraded and now every damn punctuation mark on the site has become a question mark in a diamond. This is BS…I need a real solution please on how to fix this without it entailing line by line edit.

Also none of the javascript function in a few plugins work anymore. Forum, simplepress functionality is screwed (had to upgrade theirs too), tried mingle forums, can’t even create categories, the whole thing’s a mess.

Please help – and preferably in laymans terms, I’m not a PHP geek yet, plus I’ve had no sleep so the easy fix solution is preferred.

    Thanks.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

    Thanks for responding…

    I deactivated/reactivated – didn’t work.
    Switched to 2011 – didn’t work.
I reset the plugins folder via phpmyadmin – didn’t work
I did notice that 4 wappa (wordpress photo albums) were set to utf unicode instead of general. But that was an old deleted plugin, so I “dropped” those from the db…and I’m assuming drop is php speak for delete else I’m sure I’ve probably screwed something else up while I was trying to fix it…but the stuff showing is set to utf general.ci
…and it didn’t fix anything, question marks still there

before I upload those folders, is that going to warp every shred of my work or undo everything or will it be a passive sort of fix?

I checked the link and none of that addresses my problem.

Someone else suggested changing the utf-8 to latin and I did that and most of it went away, but the ascii code is showing up. I changed it back, the question marks in little diamonds returned.

I appreciate the suggestions but none of them worked…the encoding is screwy.

It’s strictly the site though, it displays fine everywhere else.

    I deactivated/reactivated – didn’t work.

What about when all plugins were deactivated?

Nope. I even cleared out the cache but question marks still there.

In the meantime, I was forced to do it the hard way, which I was dreading, post and page by post and page, line by line deleting that and correcting it. I vow I will never again use a contraction ;-p OMG what a pain but I had no choice, the site just went live yesterday and people were all over it.
