    Hi,

Upon trying to update Jetpack, I got error:

Fatal error: Cannot find a library with slug admin-pages/class.jetpack-landing-page. in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage22/ra/ch/el/rachellucie.co.uk/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/require-lib.php on line 27

I have several times tried to add the jetpack folder via ftp (which I have had to resort to before, and has always worked), having deleted it first, and that gives me the following error when I try to activate it (although it does at least show in my plugin folder in the dashboard, which is a start)

Invalid request, please go back and try again.
    Error Code: invalid_client
Error Message: The required "client_id" parameter is missing.

Basically, I have to delete or rename the jetpack folder currently.

    What is the solution, please?

    Thanks,
    Rachel

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Now that you can access your dashboard again, could you go to the Plugins menu, deactivate the Jetpack plugin, then delete the plugin altogether via the Plugins menu, and then reinstall it?

Let me know if it helps.

    Hi Jeremy,

I have done that several times, I have tried deactivating all other plugins, I have deactivated the plugin folder and reactivated. I have installed the Jetpack software from a download via the wordpress dashboard, via ftp and via the ‘add new’ selection in the wordpress dashboard. Obviously I had removed the full jetpack folder from my plugins folder via ftp before each new attempt.

I should add that after I posted here, last night, I refreshed my browser and could see jetpack listed in the wordpress dashboard, and got the green ‘connect to wordpress.com’ message at the top, and it’s at that stage that everything goes wrong.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

I should have mentioned that the most important step in my explanations above is to delete the Jetpack plugin via the Plugins menu. By doing so, all Jetpack options will be deleted from your database, allowing you to start from scratch. If you only deactivate the plugin, or if you delete it via FTP, the options aren’t deleted from the database.

If you’ve tried deleting the plugin from the Plugins menu and if that didn’t help, I’m afraid you’ll need to delete the Jetpack options manually. These options are stored in the wp_options table, in the jetpack_options row. You can delete the row to start from scratch.

You can use PHPMyadmin to delete options in your database. Your hosting provider has Some documentation about it here:
    https://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/answers/Databases/Linux-MYSQL/how-do-i-administer-a-mysql-database-4176/
    https://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/answers/cPanel/Databases/how-do-i-login-to-phpmyadmin-on-my-123-reg-vps-3260/

If you don’t feel comfortable making changes in your database manually, you could use this small plugin I just created for you, that will wipe the option from your database as soon as you activate it.
Of course, it’s important that you only use that plugin when the Jetpack plugin is deactivated, otherwise my plugin will keep deleting the options Jetpack tries to create when you activate it ??

    Try the following:

    1. Deactivate the Jetpack plugin in the Plugins menu.
    2. Download this small plugin: https://i.wpne.ws/cF8b
    3. Go to Plugins > Add New > Upload.
    4. Upload and activate my little plugin.
    5. Load your main dashboard page to trigger my plugin.
    6. Go back to the Plugins menu, and deactivate, then delete my plugin.
    7. Activate the Jetpack plugin and try to connect it to WordPress.com.

Let me know how that goes!

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanks so much for not only the comprehensive instructions – but also the fact that your little plugin did the job!

I had no idea that deactivating from the plugins dashboard was necessary, and have deleted files via ftp without that step. Jetpack has been very buggy for me for ages when I reinstall, but I’ve always got there in the end, and I always wondered how it managed to have all my settings, even after I had deleted the file via ftp.

I’m good to go again, thanks for the fix!
    Rachel
