• I tried to do the upgrade to 3.5.2 and I got to the page which says:

    Database Update Required
WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update your database to the newest version.
The update process may take a little while, so please be patient.

I click update but it does not return. Going back to the wp-admin page, wanting to de-activate plugins and reset the theme to try the upgrade again, forwards to wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2F

I should have avoided this update as the last update took me down as well ??

  • In your admin dashboard, go to Settings -> Permalinks and make sure it’s set up with the right structure. Then click Save Changes. This will make sure your site and your server are handling permalinks and rewriting properly.

Thanks. I had a look and it’s “Day and name”. My site is currently not centred around blogs and each page is a tab with a permalink. I’m not sure this section is relevant in that case.

The permalink structure only applies to blog posts. Page URLs start from the site URL using the slug.

However, they still require rewriting to work properly. Saving your permalink settings updates your .htaccess to make sure rewriting works properly.

@christiaan/@esmi when I saved the permalinks that fixed it, finally back in business. I won;t try another upgrade until I sort out my migration to suffusion. Thanks a lot.

Agh, I thought it was resolved, until I noticed that in my themes directory it was name suffusion_old, when I removed the old, not my suffusion shows as the theme installed (not mountain_dawn), same issue as before… ??

You’ll need to go to Settings -> Appearance and set your theme to Suffusion again. When you rename the theme directory at all it deactivates it, and WordPress thinks it’s a new theme. Reactivate it and you should be all set.

I tried activating suffusion and my theme shows as available theme. I ten activate it, & suffusion shows as the active theme ?? It also showed under available themes.

    I then:

    1. renamed directory to suffusion_old
    2. Activated twenty thirteen, mountain dawn & suffusion showing as available themes
    3. Renamed suffusion them back to Suffusion (removed _old)
    4. Refreshing themes it now shows Suffusion as active with available themes Suffusion & Mountain dawn!
    5. Renamed Suffusion directory to suffusion_old.
    6. Refreshed themes, active twenty thirteen, mountain dawn & suffusion showing as available themes
    7. Activated mountain dawn, twenty thirteen & suffusion showing as available themes

Any ideas on what I should do? Thanks!

With the directory named as ‘Suffusion’ and the strange active status, try activating a different theme to force an update of your database. Then, set Suffusion as the active theme.

It seemed to work, but it’s back, suffusion show as the installed theme but it’s mountain dawn. Old removed from directory names & twenty thirteen activated first ??

Have you tried deleting all the other themes you’re not using?

    Thread Starter boardtc

    (@boardtc)

I have 3 themes, my old one, my new one and twenty thirteen. I did not try deleting the later as it was referred to in some cleanup steps to revert to this. It sound like I should try and delete it and reinstall it.

I removed twenty-thirteen and now have only the 2. It says suffusion is the active one though it is not: https://oi41.tinypic.com/9urtja.jpg

Judging by your screenshot you have only one theme available.

@media X – you may not have been following the full post. That exactly is the problem, it looks like I have one but there are 2 there!
