3.6 not working on mobile devices

    Hi

    I recently downloaded a new copy of 3.6 and it will not work on mobile devices. I have tried Ipad, Iphone and Blackberry and the site will not work on any, but works fine on a laptop/desktop browser.

    Its my test site at purpletest2.eu

    It seems to have worked when upgrading an existing site but it does not work as a new download. I used Filzilla to upload to 1and1 in the normal way. 1and1 have checked all systems and all is well. I have re-pointed my domain to another site and it works fine, its just the 3.6 download.

    Can anyone help?

  • Revert to Twenty Twelve theme and see if your site works on mobile devices.

    Also, be sure you’ve cleared your browser cache and any caching on your site.

    I have deleted my WP installation and will download and start again. I will let you know how it goes.

    Hi Dom,

    I don’t think there is any problem with WordPress 3.6.

    To tell you it is your theme which appears on mobile or ipad etc and not exactly wordpress version which matters here.

    Twenty thirteen is a responsive theme which should appear on your mobile/tablet etc.

    In case its not appearing go to appearance>themes and activate twenty ten or twenty twelve

    Hi Dom,

    Have you ruled out any connectivity issues on your mobile device? If yes, try uploading a basic index.html page and see if you can browse then from your device.

    Assuming that other websites are opening fine on your device, and your site is not opening even with a twenty-* theme, what all is displayed on the browser when you navigate?

    Hi all,

    Thanks for your replies. I have tried all of these and the site still didnt work. I even spent two hours on the phone to Apple. Its not an Apple issue as its the same on Blackberry.

    I am currently re-installing so I will update in a moment.

    OK…..any further help would be appreciated.

    I have now downloaded again and installed on my 1and1 server and pointed to my domain. It works well on a desktop or laptop but again, it still does not find the website on mobile devices.

    1and1 have checked all systems from their end and tell me there are no issues.

    Can anyone help?

    This is not a WordPress core issue. And the Twenty Twelve theme should work just fine on mobile devices. Have you spoken to your hosts about this? It may be a hosting issue.

    Yes, I get a “server cannot be found message in Safari on my iPhone.”

    Did uploading a plain .html page to your server (not in WP) – does that work okay?

    Thank you. I have noticed the 3.6 download has no htaccess file.

    Where is the htaccess file stored in 3.6?

    Can I copy this over from another site to see if that helps.

    I have contacted the host and they are content that all is working fine.

    Its not a problem I have ever had before, only since 3.6 so anything you can suggest is great

    I copied the htaccess file from another of my sites and all is working.

    Why does that file not download within the 3.6 download?

    Because .htaccess files are site specific and not all WordPress sites use them.

    Well 2012 displays perfectly with the htaccess file installed.

    My site https://theskinny-life.com will not open from any mobile device. However, it WILL open fine from a desktop. I have read the forums and tried reverting back to twenty twelve theme as suggested and this did not work. Everything is working properly from the desktop. Any suggestions?
