• Second topic about wordpress admin panel design. First one was removed. May be, it’s not a feedback forum? Oh, no, it is. Then why?

    So, those were the most negitive impressions for my six years of using and coding for wordpress.

    Hello, design from just-after-millenuum. Ugly fonts, dark and eyes-wrestling navigation… And I clearly remember that there was a plugin for wordpress 2.x which made admin area look exactly same.

    Oh, here it is.

    Screenshot.

    But this old plugin looks better then wordpress looks now.

    What’s with new clean style of navigation from Google and Apple? Why did you return to design 5 years older?

    Please return admin style from 3.7 and leave this “design” in this plugin – https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/mp6/

  • I can’t stand this. I loved WordPress for their excellent organization and very read-able, beautiful interface. The fonts were strong and the visual elements had a slight “3D” aspect which made it very comfortable to look at and operate.

    But like many other sites and applications, they’ve changed their interface to look amateurish, flat, ugly and bland, harder to read quickly, has zero distinctions/divisions among visual elements, and looks exactly like the boring trend careening across so-called “modern” website designs now. It’s like one of those terrible cheap sites people first made when we learned how to code HTML in high school.

    WordPress used to be beautiful! Now it looks like Yahoo. It’s as if 3.7 was designed by Apple’s excellent GUI designers and 3.8 was designed by the corner-cutting high school interns who ‘design’ GUIs for all the cheap tablet imitators.

    @bubblerapper

    Hee hee.. I’m betting you never experienced the joy of using WP versions prior to 2.7 ??

    I agree. Bad design. The team took something that wasn’t broken and broke it. Looking forward to the plugin that will take it back to the better way.

    Oy! The new colors are pretty, but much harder to view, as so many others have stated above. I can’t find a single color theme that is as good (IMHO) as the great 3.7 interface.

    And what happened to the option for 2 columns? On my screen, there are always 3 columns now. There’s an empty dotted box in the third column. I’d rather have the option for 2 wider columns, instead of a hint that I can move things into a unnecessary third column. Grumble.

    And what happened to the option for 2 columns? On my screen, there are always 3 columns now.

    It’s responsive. Smaller viewport = less columns. Ex: 1650×1080 = 3 columns; Laptop res = 2 columns; mobile devices = 1 column.

    There’s an empty dotted box in the third column

    Drag and drop a dashboard widget into the empty box position.

    Thank you. I just have no need for 3 columns on my laptop. I have a total of 3 items, now all smaller than necessary, and therefore less legible. Sigh! Responsive to whom? (you don’t have to answer that — I get the idea; just wish they still gave us an option that was quite useful).

    Is there a way the revert to the old admin theme? this new admin theme is hideous.

    No.

    Yellow folks!

    Just spared a few minutes for a old theme plugin. It’s not perfect and there are quite a few annoying things. But I hope to sort these over the time with everyones help. Don;t have much more time right now as I have to finish up some other projects but hope to get sorted out the last bits till the end of the next week.

    Here is the link to plugin (if it won’t be rejected):

    Why remove post about plugin which makes admin area look 3.7 and the plugin itself? That’s total user abuse.

    Take a deep breath and repeat after me: spam filters. These forums get a LOT of spam and sometimes posts get deleted with the spam. ??

    I checked this topic (I check many topic that I’d replied to) and saw those to posts and undeleted them.

    Personally I think that the plugin is a bad idea but that’s my opinion. The WordPress admin pages can be themed as the MP6 plugin demonstrated.

    I’ve been using WordPress for a few years now. I’ve developed plugins, custom themes, and managed to create just about anything I’ve needed from WordPress. This new v3.8 admin area is barf ugly. I’ve got good eyesight, and it hurts my eyes to look at. I can barely read the font in the admin menu. Please change it back or fix the styling!!!

    I have used wordpress as the cms for several of my client’s websites and they like the old backend color scheme and look. Now if I update their wordpress to new version the backend look will change. I’m not sure how they will react but I’m sure many of my clients will ask me why I changed their backend look or why change anything for their site when they didn’t request it. What shall I do? this change is unnessary for my clients.

    Oh. I am terrribly sorry. Didn’t know about them.

    Yep, wordpress admin theme for 3.7 would be good too.

    @aksam Zarook

    Faced exactly the same problem so I decided to make a plugin that would revert to the old theme. Check “wp-admin classic” in plugin directory, also there is link in the thread somewhere.

    There is still 3 issues – dashboard, widget page css and, theme css. While widget/theme problems are really minor and is not affecting my clients at all, dashboard needs little bit of extra work. So if you have solution to contribute I would be glad to include it in that plugin.

    Cheers
