3.8 causes Page Updates to Fail (white screen or no response)

  • After updating to 3.8 I am getting a white screen or an empty notice depending on the browser when I try to update page content. This is an intermittent issue as updates work about 5% of the time. Called the host and they said that I was only one of many callers with the issue today.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can roll back to wp 3.7.x if needed.

  • Do you have the same issue using a default theme with ALL plugins deactivated?

    That’s not really an option. This is for a public business site and turning off the plug-ins/themes will cause all the pages (slideshows and tabbed content) to look horrible. Maybe if I get up at 2am I can test.

    HOWEVER – the problem did not start until 3.8 upgrade.

    I see you’re on GoDaddy – they don’t have the greatest reputation – and quite a few people have reported similar problems in recent months.

    But in any case, what I posted above is very standard troubleshooting, so yes, trying to narrow down a possible cause on your site would be a good thing.

    You could also check the server error logs to see what they show.

    OK – so I deactivated all plugins and used default twenty-fourteen theme. Then tried to update a page and received the same “connection to server timed out” error. Page did not update. Site would not reload. Took five minutes before I could get back into the dashboard and reinstall my theme.

    HELP!

    Have you talked to GoDaddy or looked at your server error logs?

    Again – the problem did not occur until upgrading to 3.8

    Im talking with them again now. Server error log was empty.

    there were four error logs but all 0kb with no data
