    Working on a friends site: I understand that modifications to themes should be done through child themes and I’ve done that before on 3.7x and 3.8. Worked great. Ftp in make the directory in themes, upload style.css, etc., etc. Go to themes, activate child theme… everything is hunky dory.

    Now since this new 3.8.1 version when I did EXACTLY the same thing. uploaded, went to themes, … NO CHILD THEME.

    Forced a browser refresh. NO CHILD THEME.

    Is it me or did they make it so you have to ZIP a dang folder and upload it via WP only?

    Anyone have a work around?

    The problem I don’t want to install another plugin for something which is basic for WordPress.

    I install two versions 3.8 and 3.8.1 on my local webserver, and my child works perfectly. So, it seems maybe not to come from 3.8.1 but I don’t understand. On the same server, I have a 3.8 version where the child theme works.

    I am investigating…

    @bastien

    One thing I’ve found recently is in Customize. LOL It says I have to log in to the right… but when I log in. it just says log in again.

    But, if I go ahead and make my customize changes and click save it works. lol Another weird thing. Are you having that too on your local server?

    Anyone figure this out yet?

    It’s working just fine by creating the directory in themes and basic style.css

    /*
    Theme Name:Twenty Twelve Child
    Template:twentytwelve
    */

    @import url(“../twentytwelve/style.css”);
