  • No Plug-in needed if I understand what you want to do.

Just put a text description of the file and make the text a link to the file. The Make Link is the Icon on the top row with the chain links.

    Built in ability.

No Plug-in needed – I do it all the time on my site, I also sometimes have the download link to a small thumbnail that shows what the file looks like.

I’m having the same problem as well..

I have an excel document that I want to add as an order form on my site, and want this version so people can type right into the document on excel on their computer, then email me the manipulated copy. How would I do that? I’m alright understanding how to link it, but from there, I don’t know what to do.

The other version of this document would be a pdf copy that they could print out. How would that work, beyond hitting the link button?

    Any ideas Saildude?

Not sure about the xls stuff

Acrobat can make a Form that you fill out and it emails itself home – takes full up Acrobat to make the Form – I did one several months ago just as a proof of concept – can’t remember the full details and if the form showed up by it’s self or if it was some type of survey and did some sorting once it got home – sorry memory is a bit fuzzy.

If you have full up Acrobat worth taking a look at – Adobe also lets some things be made one at a time on their web site I think so might be doable even if don’t have full up Acrobat.

I have Adobe forms that I grab off a web site for turning in time and they can also be emailed – built into the form – Take a look at Acrobat options.

I think there is also the ability to make a form that is right in a Post – needs a Plug-in –

If you want more info on including a Form on a Post or Page best to start a new thread – maybe in Plug-in’s as to what form Plug-in works best

thanks a lot for the reply. there is a small problem though. when i click the link the PDF opens in the browser. is there a way that when the link is clicked the file to be saved on one’s computer?
    thanks

I use Firefox and when I click on a PDF file I get a pop-up that asks if I want to save the file or open it. I think that was the default – so long ago that I don’t remember – but look in the options for your browser, I would be surprised if you can’t change the option. I also right click on a PDF file and then I can save the file directly.

thanks Saildude. it’s just that if i can’t simply click and save it maybe there are other people whom options are the same. is there any plugin or maybe a hack so that the .pdf documents are saved in the computer?
    thanks

    not easily possible….here’s a discussion

    https://www.webmasterworld.com/html/3230340.htm

I looked ata few discussions, all having the same issue

Some sites I have been to when you click on a Download” link it pops a window open set to save the file. I have never programmed that – I would think that it is probably a call to a separate program or function where the file name is passed as a parameter. Being done on a few sites. Most sites just leave you on your own.

Not a mod to the PDF file.

    Good luck

@saildude that seems correct, every discussion I found on the topic references setting up a separate prog/funct

seems just instructing users to right click and download may be the easiest way to go…..

I found these with a quick search in the Plug-ins section – the descriptions were a bit fuzzy to me but one of them might work – I have never tried any of them:
