    the shadow effect will dissapear/hide if background image/color set.
    you could add this css in customizer->general->custom css, but the header will not be clickable due to z-index css.
    #header {z-index: -600;}

    how to return a shadow in the archives?

    just remove background color in customizer->color
    or delete the above css code.

    you can’t choose or add conditional to where to show the shadow.
