    Hi have had an authorisation error transaction Failed and customer has said – ‘Amex said there have been no declined transactions and recommended trying again. The error message says “the address data passed to the 3D secure provided was an invalid format. Unsupported card type’ ‘I have triple checked my address and I can’t figure out why it wouldn’t go through.’

    My card processor says – ‘Ultimately, it appears that the card-issuing bank here is refusing to authenticate the transaction. With 3D Secure, the card-issuing bank has the final say on whether a transaction will be 3D Secure-authenticated and they can refuse to do so for any reason at their discretion. To rectify this, I’d recommend trying the following: Attempt another 3D Secure transaction with the challengeRequested flag passed.’ ‘As you may know,?challengeRequested is a parameter that can be passed on 3D Secure verifyCard() calls?to attempt to force the bank to issue a full 3D Secure challenge (the part of the 3DS flow where the customer enters their OTP). This can allow you to bypass the 3DS frictionless flow and generally increase the likelihood of a successful 3DS authentication.’

    Given all this how may I change my plugin settings to help a successful transaction? I have changed one setting to bypass my processor and allow?

      Hi @cshinkin

      It’s not recommended to make hard coded changes to the plugin. What I recommend you do is contact Braintree support and ask them to check their logs for this customer’s particular payment. They will be able to provide exact details on why that customer’s 3DS attempt is failing.

      It’s possible the customer is entering an unsupported character in their address and it’s being rejected. I’d recommend testing on your staging site in Sandbox mode, using this customers exact address. See if you can trigger the error in Sandbox mode.
